WRUP: Things you are probably typing incorrectly edition

72
Still crazy after all these years.

Dungeons and Dragons: This is incorrect. The title should always be spelled with an ampersand.

Whopper Juniors: Thanks to an overly pedantic joke I will never not know that this should properly be written “Whoppers Junior,” and now you will never be able to not see that either, so ha ha ha.

Live-action Lion King remake: As there are no living lions, hyenas, or hornbills in this film, it is inappropriate to call it a live-action remake. The boar and meerkat, on the other hand, are genuine.

Barbara Streisand: This is incorrect. Her name should always be spelled with an ampersand.

Pop: It’s soda. Stop lying to yourself.

Deep-dish pizza: This should properly be titled “bread lasagna.”

What Are You Playing: Due to skyrocketing costs, it is now technically Pepsi-Cola Presents Quentin Tarantino’s What Are You Playing.

Bonus question: What’s your favorite sort of cake? No, pie is not a cake. Yes, cheesecake is a cake.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Probably passive Pokemon Go, possibly active Wizarding World. Weekend is loaded despite the fact I’m still recovering from Anime Expo. If I die of overexertion, Bree already called dibs on my Asheron’s Call swag.

No Eliot, cheesecake is only cake when Cheesecake Factory makes it without a crust. And those are admittedly my favorite cakes, though flourless chocolate cake is freaking amazing too when made correctly.

Andy McAdams: I’ll probably continue leisurely making my way through the Shadowbringers MSQ and playing a little Rimworld on the side.

Favorite cake – either red velvet or carrot cake. Depending on the day, it can go either way.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’ll be away from my desk all weekend, both a good thing and a bad thing. Bad because I won’t get to play anything. Noooo, my poor harvesters and factories.

Definitely cheesecake, but not New York style – light and fluffy for me please, heavy on the graham cracker crust, hold the weird sour cream!

Carlo Lacsina (@UltraMudkipEX): It’s finally summer vacation! Ironically, I might not be playing MMOs to celebrate its arrival; I might actually try my hand at playing some Street Fighter IV. Why not V? Well because I got a free copy from a lootbox like five years ago.

As for cake? Well… my favorite cake is fish cake! I love eating it with kimchi fried rice and some Korean BBQ.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Of course it’s still Final Fantasy XIV. No, I don’t need or want to do something else on top of that. I’m good.

When I was younger, my great-aunt would make butter cake on the regular. I’m not sure of the particular recipe she used, but she made it repeatedly, there was a fresh one there almost every week. Now, in terms of the best cake flavor, that was honestly probably not it – I’ve had more amazing individual cakes. But the most tangible and immediate sense that she passed away was the fact that her cake is gone, and so I really have to point to that as my favorite cake. It’s just a part of her in my memory, so powerfully associated that I’ll never forget it.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’ve been getting back into World of Warcraft lately, slowly cleaning up my quest logs and hoping that I’m actually progressing my character in some way rather than spinning my wheels. It’s actually been quite enjoyable, although I’m still more excited for Classic at this point. Other than that, my Dungeons & Dragons Online group should be assembling, Lord of the Rings Online has plenty for me to do in the Vales of Anduin, and A Plague Tale is begging to be finished.

Mia DeSanzo (@neschria): I will be playing Riders of Icarus and Skyrim this weekend. I am not feeling super great, so I am going to try to stay on the couch and play games.

Does tiramisu count as a cake? If not, I like a good chocolate cake with fluffy icing.

Samon Kashani (@thesamkash): As it turns out, I am actually no where near done with the ridiculous skyscale achievement collection. I’m beyond the point of no return, and I kind of hate myself a little for it, and Guild Wars 2 a little bit more for it. Alas, I’ll continue the journey just in smaller increments now. Other than that, I’ve been meaning to play some of those new solo dungeons in Albion Online.

Best cake is certainly German chocolate cake. But I’ll never turn down a carrot cake either.

Tyler Edwards: Now that I’ve finally beaten that wretched bug (mostly…), I hope to be back at D&D. On the PC, probably more Destiny 2. It’s already getting old, but I have still have some story content left to do. Might as well finish it off.

I’m not a big cake guy, but I do indulge in the occasional cupcake. There’s a vegan restaurant at the Eaton Centre that has pretty amazing cupcakes… God damn it, Eliot, now I want cupcakes.

Every Saturday, join the Massively OP community and staff for What Are You Playing, our roundup of what MMORPGs and other games we’re hoping to play this weekend (with a bonus question or two for our amusement). Tell us what you’re up to! Go off-topic! And don’t forget to have fun!

Any kind of Choc-lad cake while listening to Barbara Streis&

Wanted to try something new co-op with a friend, downloaded “Wasteland Survival” but it wouldn’t log me in to the server, then we decided to try Dauntless and I got disconnected again – Turns out this airbnb I stay at has blocked all games and even VPN.

Then I decided to play some new single player game, and ended up with … Bloons 6 … which is so far just Bloons 5 all over, just with a more stuff and also co-op (which I haven’t unlocked yet so can’t tell if it is fun).

Not a lot of new things in my gaming this week, just “The Usual Suspects”.

I’ve mostly been working on getting my “Pikerprise” starship in Star Trek Online as good as I can get her, with an NPC command crew that I consider both interesting and appropriate as characters. When I have it all sorted, I’ll let y’all know.

In an effort to bring something new to the discussion this week, here are two upcoming games (not MMOs, alas) that I am currently anticipating.

1. Starmancer

2. Space Haven

Of the two, I’m especially interested in the Starmancer game, although the two (unrelated) games do have similar aspects.

Bonus Question: My favorite cake? Probably cheesecake. I find most standard cakes too killingly sweet for my tastes — although I did once eat some angel-food cake that was (dare I make this pun?) divine.

Take care of yourselves, and each other, folks. I’ll see you next time!

i watched star trek 6 this past week and it wowed me in how well done it is and how well it stands up. i feel it stands in the shadow of wrath of khan in some ways but stands taller and straighter.

like search for spock before it this movie would serve as an important keystone in the evolving understanding of klingon culture that is at the core of both seasons of discovery so far… and based on the fan pages i follow coming on strong in season 3.

Sorry for the late replay on this, deekay. Sometimes, life has other plans. :-)

Yes, Star Trek VI was underrated in my opinion also. but I dimly recall that part of this might have been due to a degree of pre-release hype.

When it was announced that director Nicholas Meyer –the co-writer and director of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan had been hired for Star Trek VI, expectations began to rise among the fandom, and some fans seemed to be expecting “Wrath of Khan Plus” in terms of quality.

Like you, I liked The Undiscovered Country, but it had its uneven sections, and I think some fans handled the point where their expectations met reality rather badly.

(See also: Star Wars prequels for another example of this. Yes, the prequels had problems, but the expection level for the prequels was through the roof. Nothing could match those expectations, I don’t think).

In happier Trek news, I presume you’ve seen the latest promo picture for the upcoming Star Trek: Picard series. If you look closely at the dog’s collar tag, you’ll notice that it’s in the shape of a Starfleet chevron, and has “No. 1” stamped on it. :-D

`Til next time, good sir!

honestly UC is vastly better movie than wok. wok is great for it’s time but UC is just on point at every level adn a vastly better paced directed written and so on movie than wok.

it’s part of why i stay away from trek movie lists because invariably… it’s a memefest that does nothing than pander for pats on the back (and ad views).

anyways 11 year old me loved the shit out of the movie in teh theatre. i was so excited i threw up lol.

I’ve been trying the Bless Unleashed beta on the Xbox. I’m not far enough in to really know my thoughts on it yet. But I would say, mixed. It has potential.
I checked on Twitter with their official account, there’s no NDA, so I’m all good to post.
First thing that really popped out was how lively it all was. There were a lot more people running around than I expected to be the case for this game. A GM was playing a game of Hide & Seek, using the global emergency system to give hints of where they were and berate players who weren’t doing the wave emote. The chat was a mix between the typical snarky Global Chat mixed with Xbox LIVE users, it too was rather lively.
Running through public events was always fun.

The movement felt rather good. Normally with the ports to console like Neverwinter, STO, Tera etc. I always find the movement feels a bit clunky and interface jank.
But with this being built with the Xbox in mind, it all felt rather smooth, more like I was playing an action game than an MMO on console.
Although the combat wasn’t for me. It’s very action focused, combos and the like than what I’m used too playing. I might get used to it, but naturally being beta, I found that sometimes it just didn’t work.
Not laggy, just, didn’t work when I mashed buttons, my character didn’t do anything. But once again beta.
I never played the PC version, but from what I’ve been told, this is an entirely different game.

The graphics weren’t impressive. I was playing on a Day One Xbox One, so maybe it looks better on the Xbox One X, but it couldn’t say it did much for me. It reminded me more of an Unreal Engine 3 game than Unreal Engine 4. Not that I’m really bothered by bad graphics, but it was noticeable in its almost last-gen feeling.

The frame-rate was surprisingly steady from what I was doing in the early areas, I’ve heard it can dip later on, but I’m frankly used to frame-rate problems with the get-go with most console MMOs and apparently they’ve done a fair bit of optimisation since the previous test. There was an overall jankness to things when it came to interaction, but I couldn’t tell if that was just the fact I’m an Australian connecting to a US server or if the game has an odd lag for everyone. I’ve heard mixed thoughts.

Another side thing that stood out was how active the developers seem to be on social media, it really did strike me as whoever is making this really does want to get it right.

There were quite a few server issues, but that’s to be expected.
So I dunno’.
It seems like they’re really trying. There seems to more people who are looking forward to this than I expected. But I haven’t the slightest clue how this will all end up playing out if it launches.
I am interested now, depending on pricing and what-not, I might actually give it a fair punt at launch.

“Goog” stuff. Thanks! I really appreciate your impressions because the PC soap opera was so disappointing I wasn’t even going to bother.

But this sounds much better than I would have expected. Heh. I’ll join the next beta if there is one and see what is what.

I did this on the bus. How did i do this on the bus? I don’t know but i did this on the bus. Am i typing correctly how i did this on the bus?

But really, my most productive moment is when i’m leaving the house to go to my sessions, and it’s tiresome, but i can’t argue with results.

As what i am playing? I was playing a classic ragnarok pserver, and i keep asking myself…why? It’s a grindfest. The hell am i doing.

I really need to find a sandbox MMO to make my home and stay there.

More great artwork. Thanks, Bruno!

And how did you manage to draw this while on a bus? I don’t know. Maybe that’s your secret superpower?

Be well, my friend!

Reader
Bruno Brito

It’s pretty much because i already have a pretty rough way of drawing so the shuffling doesn’t really bother me.

Thanks <3

Lovely Bruno. I mean it.

We need to get you in a studio somewhere doing this full time. We can even make it look and feel like a bus if you would like.

I’ve been playing a lot of Diablo 3, I plan on going through all the zones added in patches after Reaper of Souls released to try to forensically feel out if they had a plan for 2nd D3 Expansion and what the plot may have implied.

Trying to finish up my Skyscale collection in GW2. I enjoyed most of it but this last bit of getting the LS special currencies is a slog. Also will be trying finally level my Necromancer in ESO, probably won’t make it this weekend though. I see lot of praise for the new FFXIV expansion. It’s always tempting to try to get back into that game when an expansion comes out but I just couldn’t make it past level 22 the last time I played. From reading around, apparently it’s a common complaint that the base game is in need of a revamp for leveling.

Eliot, soda is a non-alcoholic mixed drink, often made on a Sunday when a good Christian should not drink alcohol. (See recipes: https://www.littlethings.com/soda-shop-drink-recipes) Pop is different.

I’ll be playing GW2.. and working.

I enjoy any cake that does not contain allergens like nuts and coconut. It’s too difficult to pick a favorite as it depends upon many factors of ingredients, the ability of the baker, and nostalgia. :)

I’m playing Inquisitor: Martyr 2.0 and a bit of PoE. Pagan Online got a wipe with its update, putting it further down on my playlist. Tennocon has relit my interest in Warframe, so I might give that a peak. As you can see, not a single actual MMO on my playlist.

On the cake front, allow me to counter Cheesecake with Boston Cream Pie, which is not a pie, but certainly one of the most delicious cakes ever assembled when done right, which I hasten to add is rarely.

Finally, a new war front opens: Chocolate Chip Cookies, which are cookies, but are correctly named Toll House cookies, for the Whitman, Massachusetts restaurant where they were first served up in 1938, by, bless her heart, Ruth Graves.

Cheers, and remember to eat responsibly while at the keyboard.

Ah, well now… that is something that is always correct in any context. Boston Cream Pie!

FFXIV, Warframe, and probably some Teamfight Tactics will be my online games this weekend most likely. Just leveling alt jobs up in XIV while waiting to have more of a reason to pursue endgame on my RDM or such, then doing the Warframe event stuff and working up some frames/trying to do all the things. TFT basically just serves as filler for when I don’t feel like doing much else.

Might do MGSV or something else offline if my Internet decides to be garbo, but hopefully won’t have to worry about that.

Reader
rafael12104

Teamfight Tactics is getting a big push on Twitch right now. I imagine there is a streamer tourney coming up.

I don’t know. I’ve seen it played but… meh. It reminds me of Dota sort of. No a huge fan of the rng.

Reader
Sorenthaz

Yeah, part of it is definitely dictated by RNG, another part is figuring out what to build with what you get.

One thing that’s starting to get annoying to me is that certain characters and combos just feel useless compared to others. Items also tend to make/break things later. Basically it’s like I’ve found setups that work extremely well but any time I try to stray from that and experiment I feel like I get punished for it so the game pretty much just encourages me to keep doing the stupid OP stuff that I know will get good results.

But then you have to be careful about that because if too many people go after similar units you’re screwed and can’t get the unit upgrades you’ll need later down the road until they’re eliminated.

This week: I got finally my wings in BfA! Flap, flap, flap…

Also this week: Some internet rando (or Rambo) claimed that it was the opinion of all the readers that I preferred quantity of quality. Putting aside how this person managed to statistically and arithmetically come to this now moderated conclusion…was there some survey passed around to the patrons about me I was unaware of? o.O

…I had to note for one, that I don’t play many games at all. Maybe 3 at best? And the ones I do play of not of low quality value by any stretches as far as I am aware. But that’s not really important or interesting. Rather, why would this be an issue to begin with?

So to be more honest here, I am of that Old El Paso girl who says “Why don’t we have both?” I mean, I’m really for quality and quantity. That is, when I am eating a delicious quality cake, I like to have it all! (See: Image attached for the example.) So why would this be a problem? <3

And finally: Off to see a movie with friends on Sunday! Spider-Man, Spider-Man…

Have a great week and weekend folks! :)
