The last time I played a multiplayer-minded game based on the Dragon Ball Z franchise was Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, which was… OK. It did make me want a legitimate MMORPG following the same idea, though. Sure enough, such a game apparently was on the show floor of this year’s ChinaJoy expo and even in beta testing, though it seems to be flying well under the radar and offering bare few updates. This is extremely weird considering the reach of the IP… or wholly appropriate if one considers the quality of most games based on the franchise. With at least one noteable exception.
The folks at MMO Culture found out more about the game: It’s a PC MMORPG loosely translated to Dragon Ball: Legend of Time and Space, and it reportedly has had closed beta tests this past January and earlier this May. It features four playable races — Namekian, Majin, Saiyan, and Earthling — though only the Namekians and Majin were playable during January CBT.
Despite the title’s addition to the ChinaJoy show floor, only one news outlet from Taiwan is reporting on it. That may well be for the best: The game’s official website has reportedly not updated since May, the title currently has no launch date, and at least one streamer’s opinion of the game’s January beta is extremely low, calling it worse than modern mobile games based on Dragon Ball. Bear in mind, though, that beta builds are not final and things could change, assuming development is still ongoing.
For now, there’s some footage of the game from ChinaJoy 2019 as well as that streamer’s beta footage in the embed below.
