PSA: Get your free Dungeons and Dragons Online adventure pack

Free to play, free to grab

10

Hope you didn’t forget that Dungeons and Dragons Online is giving away a free adventure pack of quests in honor of the 10th anniversary of its free-to-play switch, because you can now grab that freebie with a simple code.

All you need to do is log into the game, open up the DDO store, click on the “redeem code” button, and enter in “PATHTO10” (no quotes) to get the pack. The missions in question are the Path to Inspiration, the first batch of quests that were released after the game went F2P in 2009.

Reminisce with The Game Archaeologist about how Dungeons and Dragons Online dropped a free-to-play bomb on the industry and the impact that it caused since that fateful day.

The one and only reason I installed this game was to use this code, seems that it’s already past the time you can use it (guess it was only valid for a week or something). I’m really bummed.

This game is great! Immersion is definitely a thing for DDO. Very Story driven, Team work will be needed though. Best played with friends!

…good reminder, actually. I even had it on Google Calendar but my sight glazed over it.

Why not. I’ve been meaning to check out DDO for a while.

Still the best dungeon-crawling on a mmorpg

it often feels like play an rpg of mid 90s to early 00s in gameplay and I love its dungeon crawling isnt just combat(diablo done a lot of good thing but it also began the trend of dungeons being combat-only)

I do revisit at times and thinking on a serious restart in the future

There was a time I dabbled in testing out this game for a bit, but it was probably right when they went free to play and wasn’t for very long. So I can’t remember much about it other than the fact that we could actually bust open barrels and that we couldn’t do that in most MMORPGs :P

I just circled back around to play another one from my past recently, Neverwinter, and it made me think of DDO and wonder if there were things I’d enjoy in it now. I wish I had more time to try out these things, but I may give this one another go and see how things are in it these days (plus I barely remember how things were in it the first time around).

The experience I’m looking for at the time changes a bit here and there, and I want to take in all the different kinds of games that I can on a limited schedule. I guess I could probably just skim through some videos and get the idea, though then I wouldn’t be able to log on and put in the codes for free modules :D

To get the most out of the game I think (imho) you should be into character building. DDO more than any other game gives you the power to create thousands of different character /race /ability combinations. Along with the power goes the glory of perhaps building a mutant. Game is best with a group but can be solo mostly now.

One of the things I loved about DDO was that it had some semblance of physics and “real-worldiness” in terms of being able to interact with things.

Early on was in a dungeon and there was a chasm with a ladder on either side. You could climb down on one side, fight some spiders or something, then climb up on the other side…

Instead, I took a running leap, grabbed the ladder maybe a third of the way down and climbed up the rest of the way. Never did anything like that in a MMO before!
