The low-stress survival sandbox of Astroneer seems to be less about colonization or reshaping the worlds you explore so much as… well, exploring them. That’s still likely the case, but the recent Groundwork update has introduced a new tool for the rover that lets you start making your own roads. Next it’ll be fast food joints and housing condominiums, just you wait; they’ll pave paradise and put up a parking lot!
The new paver attachment for your rover will let you lay down some fresh tarmac to drive along, even letting you build quick bridges from one side of a span to another if the video posted to Twitter is any indicator. The Groundwork update also adds a new medium canister, introduces self-stabilization for rovers when they become airborne, adds some new horns to craft, and updates the drill controls to make them more consistent with the terrain tool.
The Groundwork update is also having a little Halloween event between now and November 14th. Players are directed to the planet Atrox to investigate strange new flora, where a new visor reward awaits as well as a second visor and a suit palette reward just for logging in.
Finally, the update has made several bug fixes and adjustments to both the general game and to multiplayer. All of the details are found in the patch notes.
The Groundwork Update is live!
