“This week I am going to take the time to really cook this meal in a way I’ve never tried it before.” Lasted until I realized that would probably reduce the amount of time I could spend farming in Diadem.
“This week, I am going to actually pick up my desk and get it nice and clean.” Lasted 25 minutes until I found an old brochure for a game I hadn’t checked up on in a while, sending me into a fugue state that ultimately ended with me owning two new expansion packs for The Sims 4.
“This is going to be the week that I start running every day.” I had not yet checked the weather.
“It’s time for me to finally admit that I can’t sing all that well.” What? Why is this here? This wasn’t a lie I told myself. Who put this here? My singing voice is good. This wasn’t a lie. I never said this. Someone delete this line.
“This week, What Are You Playing isn’t going to just be funny to me.” Technically it’s not funny to me either, so I sort of got it.
Bonus question: If you could perfectly make any single noise from your mouth outside of the usual range of human speech, what would it be? (For example, car honks, or the sounds of jackhammers running, or modem connection sounds.)
Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Doing the Pokemon Go Community day, mostly at home but will try to get in some more walking time because, ugh, I can feel the need for it. Then I’ll undo that with some Animal Crossing: New Horizons (my Asheron’s Call themed island is coming along slowly but I’m enjoying it) and a virtual console party with friends. Probably means we’ll at least do some Jackbox games and Super Smash Bros.
For the bonus question, I think it’d be a toss up between a police siren and a dog whistle. I figure the police siren would get people to behave, while the dog whistle would for the additional attention I’d get from my furry friends.
Andy McAdams: Still unexpectedly playing Star Wars: The Old Republic. It’s surprisingly gratifying and the Gunslinger is a lot of fun to play. How long will I last? No idea, but I’m enjoying myself at the moment. I’ll probably also continue to dip into Elite: Dangerous and continue being social in Final Fantasy XIV. Throw some ACNH in there too.
Ben Griggs (@braxwolf): I’ll be continuing to grind up the tech trees in World of Warships. I’ve discovered that ship upgrades actually do help improve your performance (imagine that) so I’ll need to keep earning credits for those. I’ve got a few empty ship slots so I might be tempted to start down another ship line. They’re like alts in The Elder Scrolls Online for me. I can’t stop!
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’ve played a bunch of Star Wars Galaxies Legends this week, so I’ll probably take a few days off and mess around in City of Heroes and Guild Wars 2 instead. We got my son his jackal in GW2 a few days ago, and he can’t stop talking about it.
This is one of the hardest bonus questions ever. It’s tempting to pick something trolly like an airhorn, but my brain keeps circling back to the fuzzy reverb of a marimba or the unique layered sound of unison trumpet/trumbone, stuff I actually like. I’m not helpful on this one.
Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): My standbys are standing by (Final Fantasy XIV and Animal Crossing, for the record) as well as a dip back into some Dauntless and some more scratching my sudden ARPG gaming itch with Torchlight III and Magicka 2. I might need to reroll in Torchums, though; the Sharpshooter is way too easy right now. But then again, there is something nice about laying down the hurt I can…
The answer to the bonus question is easy: I want to perfectly mimic electric guitar notes! Instead of nyer-ne-nana-nee nyow’ing my way through my favorite solos, I could sing right along!
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Eh, mostly just FFXIV and some Final Fantasy VII Remake, I think. Nothing all that far outside the usual, if we’re being honest.
Basically I’d just like to be able to turn my noise-box into a sound board at will, but barring that, I think I’d like the idea of being able to perfectly imitate the sound of a wooden beam snapping in two.
Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): With new content in both Fallout 76 and Lord of the Rings Online, I have my hands more than full with glorious adventures. I’m also trying to wrap up my Necromancer’s personal storyline in Guild Wars 2 because I’m a masochist or something.
Samon Kashani (@thesamkash): Starborne. The all consuming. It’s taking up all my free time at this point. It’s perfect for filling in every five-minute gap I have. I was also able to get one of those Valorant keys by watching a steamer for far too long, so I’m going to try and play that some more. Also I’ve been putting off Guild Wars 2’s Super Adventure Box, which is truly telling. I really want to play at least a few tribulation runs.
Tyler Edwards: Pretty much same as last week. I’m all in on We Happy Few, and if I have any time leftover I’ll play some more of Diablo II (in Grim Dawn).
Bonus question: Um, is everything okay at home, Eliot?
Pierre, patron: I had a lot of work to do and didn’t have a lot of time for gaming this last week. Consequently, I barely started playing Final Fantasy VII Remake, and my The Last of Us playthrough is still not finished. I should work on those this weekend. I did find some time to play The Elder Scrolls Online, very casually, but I played some. Unfortunately, I don’t know why, but the game doesn’t interest me as much as it used to when I came back to it a few weeks ago. I’m not so sure I will go on playing TESO for very long… We’ll see.
Bonus question: I’m incapable of whistling. So, before anything more complex, I’d really like to learn how to make a proper whistle rather than some more exotic sound. And you MOP readers, what are your MMO (or not so MMO) gaming plans for the weekend? Let us know in the comments and, as usual, stay safe at home if possible.
