Does Funcom have another game up its sleeve? It appears so, as the Oslo-based developer broadly hinted that it is getting ready to make an announcement next Friday, June 5th, at the IGN Expo.
On Twitter, Funcom pointed fans at the event, saying, “Hmmm, what’s this? Game reveal? Unannounced game? Mark your calendars folks! 5th of June!” The schedule for IGN Expo also notes that the announcement will be made with David Goldfarb of The Outsiders, a studio made up of former EA vets that is based in Sweden. On The Outsiders’ website, the collaboration is mentioned but no details are given.
Funcom has a lot of irons in the fire these days on top of its already-released MMORPGs (such as Secret World Legends), single-player titles (Moons of Madness), and multiplayer games (Conan Exiles). Two upcoming games in particular that we’ve been tracking are the highly anticipated (but less-than-an-MMO) Dune and the multiple-times-delayed OARPG Conan Chop Chop.
Or they just remembered that Secret World is a thing that they made.
Age of Conan 2 is happening! /s
Ya my guess is a FP Conan game but we’re talking The Outsiders here, it really could be anything…
OMG this is awesome news I love David Goldfarb Aka @locust9 hes such a legend!!!: https://twitter.com/locust9/status/1265896412056825856
My money would be on MMOifying the Conan Exiles assets into AoC2. I never really felt like they were doing all that work with architecture styles and clothing just to sell some Exiles DLC.
Nah. It’s in partnership another company, and it looks like Funcom has (rightly, I think) decided they do a better job with smaller, more contained games than sprawling MMOs.
Tortage in Age of Conan was brilliant. Thereafter? Notsomuch. Solomon Island in The Secret World? The introductions to the three Orders? Brilliant. The game after that? Less so.
They’re great at nailing an aesthetic and a mood for their setting, and have some brilliant writers. But extending that into the complexities of a huge MMO with all the requirements of a proper economy and “evergreen” content, they don’t do as well.
Whatever it is, it won’t be an MMO.
I’m hoping whatever it is that they announce is almost ready to play and not something like the TES6 “announcement.”
They were hiring for an “unannounced mmo” about a year ago. Will be interesting to see what this is about.
Tower defence in Secret World universe. Id play
After what they did to Secret Wars, I have no faith in them.
same here
I cannot seriously be very interested in anything Funcom puts forward anymore.
They had some really outstanding properties that they just abandoned: Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, The Secret World (NOT SWL). Any of these could have been master works of MMO design, but they were effectively mothballed instead of further developed.
To bad.
I used to love Funcom, but the abandon culture (besides Conan Ark HALO Dude Xtreme Survival Royale Vitamin Shoppe) doesn’t install confidence.
Another survival game?
