Maaaan i hate when games shut down. It’s actually heartbreaking. I totally get the business reasons behind it, but to a lot of people these games were literally homes away from homes.

One of the main appeals behind MMOs is the persistence of it all – your character, the world you reside in, the stories and NPCs. Knowing you can never revisit these worlds again is a hard pill to swallow.

I didn’t get into MMOs until Guild Wars in 2005, though I had friends who played a few before then. I never liked the fact I had to pay a monthly rent to keep playing. After I got into them more, and started to read about various games shutting down. It made me wish and wonder why devs don’t “future proof” and build the game with an offline mode for the inevitable sunset so we can keep playing after the servers are gone.

I’m still in the stage of denial. ;_;

Ah well. It was a fun little ride. I never really expected to like the game as much as I did. I wish it could have held out for longer. It’s the one MMO that made me care about my house. I’m going to miss my little Pumpkie and my Unicorn mount.
