Amazon’s New World gears up with all the loot you can handle

Let’s not beat around the bush, here: We are all loot fanatics. We love getting those choice drops and seeing our bags fill up with that sweet, sweet treasure — so much so that it is almost unthinkable for an MMORPG to deny us access to corpse robbing.

Well, boys and girls, New World is not going to break that trend, rest you well. Amazon Game Studios put up a new post to go over all of the different types of loot found in the game, including consumables (food, potions, weapon coatings, and tinctures) and equipment (weapons, armor, trinkets, bags, and crafting mats).

What’s really interesting here is that it looks as though players are going to make their own choice as to how to gear up for battle based on their preferences. “Each piece of armor that you wear contributes to your overall equip load, which in turn affects your mobility when evading,” the studio explained. “You can mix and match different armors to get the most effective protection for the movement state you want to stay in, the total weight of the armor is what matters, not the individual pieces. There are even Item Perks that affect an armor’s weight!”

Sure. Call me when they get an actual, cohesive game in place. Until then, New World isn’t an option for me, thanks.

I’m just going to wear a breastplate and no pants for that extra mobility.

I’m guessing the 1st Expansion will add in the Orange.

These designers seem intent on shoveling all the old mechanics from all the old games into this game. We have seen all this before.

Amazon really should have found some people with vision and that are willing to take risks on NEW ideas. So far, it is almost like the old-fart gaming club is in charge.

I’ve already played these systems. I want something different and exciting. So far, this is not that.

Nope. This is all “NEW” stuff. Guess you didn’t read properly. Can’t wait to see what other “NEW” systems get added down the line.

I swear this game is becoming more and more of a joke every time.

Well they tried that. But like PvP, and settlement building, and crafting, and other systems they didn’t like the way players were using the systems so they simplified things and changed it to be like every other game out there.

“We really wanted to give our players a lot of different types of items. New World lets you collect weapons, armor, and potions, all while letting you manage your inventory, which has never been done before in an MMO.”

I’m pretty interested in the game, I see a lot of hate for it saying it’s just another survival game basically but I like survival games.

They’re basically removed all the survival elements at this point, that’s old information from the original alpha. Hunger/Thirst are basically gone. Free building territories is gone. PvP is completely optional.

It’s more PvE themepark now. ESO is probably the closest comparison. Most of the game play revolves around doing bounty style repeatable quests and just grinding out public events ESO style. If you liked the dolmen grind from ESO you’ll fit right in. Not much story over all, and no real dungeons/end game.

The weight system is basically like Dark Souls where your encumbrance stat determines how much you can carry in terms of equipped weight and how fast you can sprint or dodge. This was actually originally very interesting as in PvP you had a lot of different roles and game play with weights as for open world PvP you had to have chasers in less armor which caused them to be more vulnerable.

None of this really matters for PvE. Don’t hit red encumbrance and you’re fine.

Well from someones comment. Basically the friends and family was some peaceful everyone hold hands and lets work the land stuff… then when the flood gates opened the real players pillaged and rebuilt killing everything in sight.

So now they shifted gears completely and we are getting a more PvE less PvP game.

Essentially more devs that are out of touch with what really goes on in full open world PvP-focused mmos.

That was my comment from my time in the original Alpha :)

The devs were fully aware of what happens in full open world PvP focused MMOs. There were articles and interviews where they discussed them fully. The issue here was a general ineptitude on the part of the developers to handle the situation on any level. They tried literally nothing. At all. Not one single meaningful change. It was, frankly speaking, embarrassing.
