Shroud of the Avatar’s Release 81 adds a new town, new lava fish, and flexible block building features

Release 81 for Shroud of the Avatar is out this week and it’s got some new goodies for pretty much everyone in the game, whether you’re someone who enjoys building things with blocks, someone who enjoys fishing things from lava(!), or someone who has Episode 2 Access and is ready for a new town to check out.

For those Episode 2 Access holders, there’s the town of Tanglemire to explore, an outpost town that’s beleaguered by the influence of some shadowy beasts in the nearby forest that players will (naturally) have to confront. The current release will have two repeatable quests, with plans for more quests as development of the scene continues, while the town will ultimately fall somewhere in the middle of the Mistrendur storyline.

As for everyone else, Release 81 has added four new lava fish that can be fished out of the magma that range in size from “pretty large” to “heckin’ dinosaur-sized” as well as a variety of new magma fishing spots, and has made building block placement more flexible by letting larger blocks be stacked on top of smaller ones and allowing for more overhang. So now players can fish in more lava and create the nonsensical cairns of their dreams.

Additionally, the latest update post has given us a much clearer look at the in-development addition of mounts, so now we can all enjoy that sweet backflip mounting action without the squished aspect ratio and Twitter video buffering. Hurrah.

I am excited for this release, they added a lot of new stuff not just the new ep2 content, but more paths for artifacts up to Epic level for the end game peoples. Armor updates to how armor stats work when wearing a full set, new skills added moon finally has a single target spell which is really nice, Potion increases, XP adjustments for higher Tier scenes, 1st ep npc adventure scene with a few daily quests, no more player housing in ep2 npc towns makes player towns the goto in that area. Adjusted durability for artifacts to make them burn down faster so that player gear becomes better. I think this was one of the best releases in the last few months. next release we have the PVP queue system which I look forward to playing around in.

Overall a lot of new players in the game and retention is up. recent stream talked about Catnips profits being enough that they are now contracting some old devs back to work on new animations and more.

I still laugh when I see people thinking the game is almost dead. people been saying that for 3 years now and it keeps trucking along with new stuff every month.

There has been a lot of back end changes the last 3 months which is why the previous 3 releases were not too content heavy and more store orientated. Chris and team have been working on that pvp queue system, mounts as you see (btw chris got flak for showing off the mount stuff as animations and the likes were not completed which he mentioned on a stream but he wanted to share anyways to show that its getting close) They also have the treasure map stuff in the works, and next release the new maps for ep2 zones than shortly after the updated for ep1.

Can’t wait to see what the next focus will be, many are waiting on the updated crafting stuff for mw / enchants and next tier of crafting stuff which they will be revisiting soon by the sounds of it.

cheers.

That’s what worries me a bit about Pantheon. The People making it want to pretend that there hasn’t been any Positive advancements in the Genre.

Also, it’s OK to have an old Philosophy however, you can’t also look the part when even the most generic Eastern MMORPG looks visually good.

I do agree that eastern mmo’s look amazing. The old school approach though / formula still works best for longevity. Brad’s ways from eq1 and up has always had success all the games did really well short of some of the back end server issues ie Vanguard which ruined the game. I do believe that once we see beta of Pantheon with updated graphics which they have started to show off some of it will still be very sucessful even though brad is no longer. I do look forward to seeing how this “eq like” remake turns out.

is that’s what’s in the release? lava fish, a town that looks like anywhere else in the game, and blocks?

the newsletters are so chalked full of fluff that its a needle in the haystack to find out whats new

clear out all the store advertisements, projects to support (who are basically them), livestreams, community updates, etc, and there’s barely anything left.

Catnip actually adding a new town scene, even a basic one with only a few quests, is actually a huge improvement compared to most months. Normally all that is new is items to buy from the cash shop, so SotA players probably feel this month is the best release in a long, long time.

This has to be masochism at this point.
