Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is live today

My name is might have been.

If you have already properly reckoned with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, now is the time for you to reckon again, as the remastered Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is live today on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. This means you’ve got a new chance to play the action RPG that famously killed Curt Schilling’s video game development career and left the state of Rhode Island holding the bag when a development studio folded! 38 Studios was a trainwreck.

However, the game that got produced was actually really good despite all of that, and if you are still harboring any hopes of potentially seeing Project Copernicus finding some form of substance once again… well, this would be the first step in that direction. So if you’ve never played the original or just want to see it in higher definition, your time is now. There’s even new DLC planned for the future on top of all the existing DLC rolled into the game!

Apparently they rebalanced some things, so that starts to make the game worth a shot, but I have the original and I’d like to do at least one playthrough of that before caring about any more. Its not like they put substantial resources behind this barely-remaster.

FOV slider. Fixes the game from unplayable headache inducing “This should be fun but isn’t” to a working title. That was more than enough for me, as somebody who had the old version.

ok, so no one replied, no problem, so I checked ..

and ..

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning

So why is it on massivelyop.com? What am I missing?

I’m also confused about why this is being talked about on this site.

This specific title has a heavily MMO-related history (see the failed Project Copernicus) and there is a slight chance that it will have an MMO-related future with the sale of the IP. The whole saga of this game is a cautionary tale for prospective MMO developers. I would find it a bit odd if Massively didn’t address this game given the background.

If you ever played the original game you’d know why. It feels like an MMO that never got around to actually being an MMO.

yeah …

I played the original, and a) there are plenty of single player games that feel like an MMO but in single player mode and b) @treehuggerhannah seems to have provided an answer to my question.

Although, it sounds a bit “pulled by the hairs” if you ask me :)

Pretty disappointed by the level of remaster here. Could have been amazing with a bit more effort – like Tony Hawk for instance. Might still pick it up when it is cheaper to have a copy that doesn’t require me to dust off the 360.

What happened with Tony Hawk 1+2 would have never applied here. That’s a 100% remake, not a remaster.

I brought it on GOG got 10% off. It was one of my favorite RPG’s back when it came out. I never had a problem with the graphics so that’s a non-issue for me. It’s been pretty fun so far but you do get some slow down after an hour of playing in towns but it wasn’t drastic. Its getting mixed reviews because people were hoping for 2020 type graphics in a 10-year-old game.

I guess no free upgrade for those that own the original game? 😟

You get 50% off if it was purchased through Steam. It’s in their FAQ

It does seem as though its running at 60% off for me on Steam. So maybe I will bite again.

Yep, Steam automatically gave me 60% off either edition of the remaster… I assume because I have the original in my library.

Unfortunately they don’t do a very good job of explaining the purchase options. I ended up getting the FATE one because it apparently includes the future DLC.

I own the old version but I was turned off by the lack of key binding options, I don’t do the wasd movement thing so if I can’t mind in a way to move with my mouse then you’re game is unplayable for me.

Not only does this “remaster” look almost identical to the original, they’ve managed to make it run like garbage. I dropped down from 100+fps to 37 when I entered the first town.
Nobody can convince me than anyone involved with mouse and keyboard controls have played that game with kb+m for more than 30 min.
I owned the old version on steam, so I paid 16€ and I consider that too much money for the amount of changes, asking 40€ for this is insanity.
