MassivelyOP’s 2020 Golden Yachties: Weirdest thing that tried to be an MMO this year

MassivelyOP’s not-so-serious end-of-the-year awards continue today with our pick for weirdest thing that tried to be an MMO this year. (If you’re wondering what the heck a Golden Yachtie is, you can get caught up with the first award.)

And the winner is…

WIKIPEDIA

Is Wikipedia an MMO? A Wikipedia article claimed that status in 2020, and though it seems more like a parody, it’s actually pretty well thought-out. “Players (editors) choose a race (editing style) and class (editing role) and roam over a vast landscape (article database), exploring both hidden spaces (orphaned articles) and well-known boss areas (featured articles),” Eliot explained. “And you get experience (edit count) for playing (editing articles)!”

I suppose most of us have played MMOs that were less MMOsy than that.
