Magic Legends begins selling discounted cosmetics bundle ahead of open beta

If for some reason you’re angling to buy cosmetics for a game that hasn’t released yet – and let’s be real, MMO players are known for doing just that – then you’re going to want to peek at PWE’s Magic Legends reveal today. The company is apparently selling a new Planeswalker Bundle for the game, which is set to hit open beta in March. The bundle includes five color-themed themed gear sets for any toon, five alternate skins for some signature summoning spells (i.e., it makes your earth elemental looks like an obsidian elemental), and the “exclusive” Gilded Lotus Artifact (and its own alt skin).

The hook here is that the price for this will presumably double eventually (we don’t know exactly when), so at $39.99 it’s half off right now and could jump to $80 later. If you know you’re going to buy it no matter how many judgmental frowny-faces we cast your way, now is probably the time. Everything unlocks for the open beta on March 23rd “and will carry on to the launch of the game,” a hard date for which we still do not have.

if all they are selling is cosmetics ahead of release for a game some people may be anticipating, why are so people so mad? there’s plenty of games that release “founders packs” that have all kinds of game affecting shit in them for upwards of 100$, a 40$ pack of cosmetics doesnt seem like a big deal for a on launch f2p game…

I didn’t realize Oblivion was a F2P game you could opt out of buying the cosmetics in, my bad.

We’re so far past that, good for you knowing that little nugget of gaming history I guess.

Edit: I would be more concerned with people who talk about their experience with Magics already existent p2w tactics, and why anyone would expect anything else from this franchise in the end. It would just be a nice thing if it didn’t turn out to be p2w in some form but pretty unlikely. Cosmetics aren’t p2w yet

Can’t spell “game” without “give me all your money”.

I’ll try the game as I like Cryptic’s other games and this IP, but $80 for a few cosmetics and objects? OK, not as bad as Star Citizen, but still way overpriced!

As someone who has played Magic since the 90s and played several Magic games, this is not a surprise.

Magic is the original pay to win money grab game. You literally buy better cards to win and then all those cards are banned from use in 2 years. The video games themselves have cosmetics and some are quite expensive or come only in exclusive bundles.

If you were expecting Magic Legends to be a 100% free to play game that is balanced for everyone, you really haven’t been paying attention for the last 30 years.

I’m staying very far away from this game. I’d rather they made a proper MMO with an appropriately priced cash shop. No more than 5 bux per cosmetic and everything else is earned in game especially inventory space. I’d also accept a proper sub mmo but it seems few companies are willing to go that route nowadays.

Wow – if your side eye was not set before it should be now.

I was in the closed beta a couple of months ago and it was bad. Makes sense they are trying to cash in before the inevitable closure in 6 months.

Way to ruin a possibly fun game, with typical corporate greed and BS

You spelled “fund” wrong.
