It’s been some time since Ingress, the MMOARG from the same company that brought us Pokemon Go, has been in the news, but this new info is certainly a doozy. Niantic has unveiled the pending arrival of a new optional subscription that adds an expanded inventory, a monthly loadout kit, a unique profile medal and flair, and a monthly grant of 2,500 CMU after a one-time bonus of 7,000 CMU for those who subscribe within the first 30 days of the sub’s launch, all for $5 a month.

Not only does this news have an impact on players of Ingress, its implications are even reaching to players of POGO. Members of Silph Road, one of the core POGO communities, are already digesting the announcement, with many assuming that a similar feature arriving to the Pokemon-chasing AR game. Most of the reactions seem to skew between supportive and curious, though there some voices suggesting a subscription will only “leave casual players even further in the dust.”
