Bonus question:
Do you prefer sleeping later or going to bed earlier?

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Oh man, this is gonna be an exciting weekend. I’m gonna try to hit Pokemon Go hard because I really think Inkay/Malamar is a neat pokemon even if we ignore it’s unique upside-phone evolution requirement. I’ll probably do some Monster Hunter Stories 2 as I’ve finally gotten over the level 73 hump and the experience has been flowing in again, plus I’ve got a nice Soulseer Mizutsune to help me prep for one of the Elder’s Lair levels later on. Then I got board games on Sunday, woo! Catan, Unlocked, 7 Wonders, and others.

I’m not gonna lie, I prefer going to bed early, especially if I’m into a good MMO. Since most gamers seem to stay up all night, early and mid-morning seem best for avoiding competition or, in PvP games, finding a nice, sleepy powergamer to dry loot. You should have gone to bed when mommy told you so, Timmy!

Andy McAdams: Valheim has sunk its devious viking fangs into me (Vikings definitely have fangs) as we ramp up for the big update next week. I’m also playing Rimworld a lot because its like my go-to game. I might putz around in New World some more, but like Bree, I’m just ready for the real deal already.

Bonus: I don’t like to go to bed early, but I also don’t like to sleep late. I love sleeping, I’m just really bad at it, and if I sleep too much I feel like I’m wasting time. Which is all truth told, probably an issue and why I am perpetually tired.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): After this week, I kinda don’t feel like playing anything, but I probably will poke into Star Wars Galaxies Legends and maybe some New World beta, although honestly I’m not sure I need any more beta – I just want the real deal.

I have pretty bad insomnia if I don’t stick to a sleep schedule, but generally I prefer going to sleep close-ish to midnight. Life doesn’t always cooperate with what we prefer.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): I have this hungering to fire up Aliens: Fireteam Elite and unload on all sorts of xenomorphs, and in a bit of tonal whiplash I also want to further romp around in Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff. I also picked up this cute little single-player action/farming RPG called Kitaria Fables that I’ve been enjoying quite a bit, so that’s likely to happen as well.

I try to stay up late mostly because working two jobs doesn’t leave me with much leisure time in-between. Some nights I succeed, some nights I fail.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Honestly, mostly single-player stuff for me this weekend, just since I’m pretty much parked on Final Fantasy XIV at the moment and I’m not really planning on hopping on the New World train at the moment. Nothing against it, just already know where I’m going to focus my time in a couple months, after all.

My plan that successfully worked for years was to go to bed late and wake up early… but as I get older, increasingly I get more tired and wind up sleeping later instead of going to bed earlier. C’est la vie.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’m working my way to Minas Morgul in Lord of the Rings Online with my Captain, and I have hopes that I’ll reach that expansion sometime next week. Apart from that, I started up a new Fallout 76 character and am greatly enjoying the exploration-looting-crafting loop there.

Sam Kash (@thesamkash): I’m still mucking about in Guild Wars 2. A mission a week really stretches out that content. I’m also having a decent time with the festival. I’ve been trying to decide if there’s anything else I want to really spend time playing but I haven’t committed yet.

Bonus: I would prefer to go to bed early but I just can’t do it. I’ll sleep in no matter what. I’m just a night owl through and through. I get the best work done after hours and can’t bring myself to go to sleep.

Tyler Edwards (blog): I’ll be continuing my increasingly epic Curse of Strahd D&D campaign, and I’ve been playing Road 96, which is less good than I expected but still quite good. Fantasy soundtrack.

Bonus question: I prefer going to bed and waking up late.

Joseph Douglas, patron: (@Cavalier_Remix): My company graciously gave us an extra long holiday weekend for Labor Day – Thursday through Tuesday – so I tried to take advantage of as much of that extra free time as I could to game. My partner’s mother has been staying with us for a couple weeks, though, so it hasn’t been easy to sneak away and hunker down at the computer, but I still somehow managed. I pop on to Guild Wars 2 every night to bang out some of the easier PvE and PvP dailies (gotta keep getting those easy 10 APs), and I check the gem store weekly for stuff I’m missing (e.g., the elusive Exalted Ley Hunter jackal skin).

I played a bit of Fortnite with my partner’s kid, me on my PC and him on our Switch, trying to clear out some of the many map missions I’ve left hanging for some time now, particularly since the current season is ending soon. Even though I haven’t been as active this season as in those previous, I’m still curious and excited to see how this one ends with the alien ship event! I hopped onto DC Universe Online to check out Episode 41, and ran a few instances in the new Quick Play system on my CR 297 main. I’m definitely not a fan of the stat-clamp, and found myself getting frustrated about being hoisted into instances for which I haven’t yet seen any backstory. I noticed Source Mark acquisition (the life-blood of progression in the game) is a terribly grindy affair, as well. Hopefully we start seeing fruits from the recent survey sooner rather than later, because I still love this game and want to see it thrive.

Speaking of an MMO I want to see thrive again, I logged on to Star Wars: The Old Republic and tried to re-acclimate myself by playing through some of the class stories on my super low-leveled Smuggler and Agent alts. Eliot’s recent Daily Grind articles about terrible voice acting and trying MMO’s again got me inspired to jump back into the fray between the Republic and the Empire. On my main character, there’s still a chasm of content I have to cross before I’m ready for the upcoming expansion, but I’ll chip away at it bit by bit. And finally, my main focus over the past few weeks has been to continue working on the Shadowbringers main story quests in Final Fantasy XIV on my PLD, as well as working in parallel to do the role-specific quests in the Crystarium with my RDM, WHM, and NIN. My hope is to complete all of the expansion (and post-expansion) MSQ content before Endwalker drops in November, but with so many upcoming MMOs on the horizon and other games on my radar, I suppose we shall have to see.

Every Saturday, join the Massively OP community and staff for What Are You Playing, our roundup of what MMORPGs and other games we’re hoping to play this weekend (with a bonus question or two for our amusement). Tell us what you’re up to! Go off-topic! And don’t forget to have fun!

I’m planning to slice a few (ok, more than a few) hours into Dragon Quest 11, and if I get a little bored with turn-based I’ll swap over to Kingdoms Of Amular: ReReckoning so I can sling my chakrams for awhile. Saturday night is DnD through The Forge with some friends, interestingly enough we’re also playing Curse Of Strahd (with a guy named Tyler, too lol).

Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Re and was really enjoying it. Then the New World beta ate my weekend. First time in the game and was really surprised, given all the initial drama, how solid the PvE feels and how much there is to do.

On the side, I’ve been playing Cookie Clicker, which is another kind of monster.

Lastly, there’s the surprisingly fun and engaging Never Return, a hack n slash roguelite. Usually not a fan of blocky graphics, but this one is really well done. Skills determined by equipped weapon and the simply magnificent skill wheel. Solo developer, I believe, which makes the smoothness and complexity of the game even more amazing.

Bonus: Yes, sleep. Always good whenever it arrives.

Take care, everyone.

The announcement of the upcoming Cantha had me nostalgic for Guild Wars and I re-loaded GW2 onto my computer. I gave it up a few years ago due to the game play causing serious pain issues in my hands. There was a little bit of mental self-kicking going on as I loaded into the game and proceeded to spend the next couple of log-in sessions collecting birthday gifts. I’ve been taking it easy, loaded up with Ibuprofen, Tiger’s Balm, and my special compression gloves, and putting the game down when I started to feel twinges of pain. I’ve actually missed it! Still tip-toeing through content because I’m afraid to flare up the pain again, but so far so good!

FO76 is still my main staple and I’m working my way through the new season scoreboard. Rewards aren’t that stellar this time around, but it’s okay. All the Atoms will allow me to buy stuff I want from the cash shop!

Started working on a 2nd camp, but I keep tearing it down and starting over, then taking a break for a few days before trying again… It’s hard to create another one when the first one is set up so well. My imagination is refusing to budge! I did decide I know why I like FO76 so much! It’s because combat is so simple. Q for V.A.T.S., mouse button for firing, then do some skippy-marsupial leaping while firing. It makes me ridiculously happy! I’m so tired of gimmicky combat that makes my hands hurt, or other players saying I suck because I don’t play a certain way or my character isn’t geared a certain way. FO76 allows me to march to the beat of my own drum! And my character looks great sporting a Beehive hairdo while doing so!

Bonus Question:
As I get older, I value a certain amount of sleep at a certain time. During my current schedule, I sleep between the hours of 1-1:30am until 8am. Gone are the days of going on three hours of sleep over three days on workdays and hitting the bars after work each night. The funny thing is, I don’t miss that lifestyle one bit.

Those words were not in vain, they surreptitiously defined, in order mind you, that is, chronologically, my four day tenure at dunkin donuts, where i was terminated by myself after almost crying when being yelled at by a blonde co-worker regarding “MEDIUM…MILK…LATTE!!!!!”.
I’m back in SWTOR, having internet and a laptop simultaneously with minumum specifications, and do i mean minimum. I have unlocked Altuur zok Adon my companion, three mounts, and a penthouse in carrick station with the galactic seasons rewards all laid out nice like, see…one even has a lore object. Nice one, BioWare.
Does anybody know since i got 800/800 (i used CC to catch up like a boss), have i missed out on any points, i was under the impression the galactic season offered something on top of what you would get by just paying cartel coins like i did, instead of doing the actual gameplay, where effort and money are two very concrete barriers ATM.

I have been playing Destiny 2 for a few days and have been enjoying it, despite my lack of FPS skills. It’s very beautiful graphically and I really enjoy the sci fi environment and story. I didn’t consider it before as I had the mistaken impression that it was all PvP, which in I guess a fantasy themed MMO, like Albion or way back UO I enjoy, even though I don’t engage in PvP typically in those types of games. So having some fun with that. Also I am playing Dragon Quest it’s a very relaxing and simple RPG. Might do a few things in ESO. Also a few other newly downloaded games to try, FF 13 being one. I tried the Bard class out in Neverwinter, I like it, we’ll see there. I’m very fortunate to have so many great gaming options. The post below has me thinking of STO also but I should probably focus my gaming attention on what I already have going on there. I’m fortunate to have choice, and in gaming I probably haven’t had so many options before. And so, I wish you all well, and of course freedom (choice). Have a great weekend, thank you.

BTW, if you are an Xbox gamer my gamer tag is BalisticBeti, feel free to add me to your friends list if that’s of interest to you.

WEEKEND POWAR

also with a berry heavy dose of nothing-going-according-to-plans so life a lil extra hectic, huffff

ANYWAY

Star Trek Online

slowly been making progress on my languishing captains that were made YEARS ago and neglected… all in prep for the new stuff coming soon!

PSA: they FINALLY re-running the temporal agent recruit event (along with revamp)! the ToS one! so go make a new fresh ToS captain and finish the tutorials till you in the main timeline and pick up the speshul responder thingy! …if you log on trek at least once a year, MAKE ONE, it is so worth it with the account wide benefits; mainly the equipment rank and quality boost from reputation vendors! go go go

Champions Online

my poor neglected charas, sniff…. also, logging in after a long time means that many titles i unlocked way back which are now account wide, hit me en masse on loading each alt; which is reassuring hee… so did a bit of sorting, coz my inventories are a BEEEEEG mess… it a process, okay? gonna take me a few days, huff

PSA: 12th anniversary event winding down, so if you log on infrequently, grab your freebies!

moar awesim stuff

hopped on the CoX homecoming coz my pals were being dorks there… akshully they were running around being clowns, so i loaded mine and ran a few dungeon type tings meant for lowbies coz i still barely understand wat i doing and the ui + lag annoy me buuuuuuuut we had fuuuuuuun,,, gaming with pals beats everything….. aaaaaalso, we made a few ppls day by being obnoxious hee

and lastly i been addicted to an indie called Low Magic Age coz it reminds me of Neverwinter Nights and I CANNOT ESCAPE…. also it has a low footprint and fully turn-based, so my poor laptop doesn’t hate me for leaving the game up for hours,,, aaaalso, fair warning it not fully finished, it moar like a sandbox for your custom dnd party with randomized dungeons on a static overworld map…… aaaaand not all classes in, but for the stuff they DO have, there’s plent of lore and help with an in game ‘pedia

starsector got no love from me tho, coz it was the only game i was playing obsessively for the months i was busy/away :P also my accidental smuggler-turned-pirate could use a break from authorities sending fleets after them… and it was NOT my fault! i was trying to halp the local fleet fight off a raider fleet! i did not know the locals only had one ship left and my overexcited (reckless) pilot decided to lob missiles at the enemies right behind the lone ship…. how DARE they blame ME for bonking their whole fleet, huffffff ….. i enjoy the drama, okay?

aaanyways, be good, stay awesim, has fuuuunn

Running Warframe Plague Star and Nightwave missions, with Dawn of Man on the side.

I suffer from insomnia, so take what sleep I can get, though I try to get up early so I can get my work day over with sooner.

Guild Wars 2.

The End of Dragons announcement made me want to play some more. It was a ton of fun playing a new character with a Skyscale (flying mount).

I felt in an MMO mood so I downloaded Phantasy Star 2: New Genesis on my Xbox and I was instantly put-off by how tiny the text is. Small unreadable text is an issue with a lot of console ports but I guess I had some idea in my mind that PSO2 wouldn’t have this issue as it was made as a console game in Japan (I believe) and all the work put into bringing it over, although turns out I was wrong because even when selecting the only larger text mode it didn’t seem to make any actual difference to me in the slightest.
I guess I’ll have to try it again on PC if that’s more bearable lol. I also downloaded a new local indie game The Artful Escape, but haven’t really gotten far in it.

Oh and I finally got around to watching Lupin on Netflix, it’s really good! I hate the idea that some people (excluding those with legitimate reasons) watch the English-dub of this, it’s a French show, watch it in French with subtitles! Like the trailer I found online with the dub, it’s awful XD But the show is good, it’s not quite what I expected it to be but that’s a good thing as I binged the whole lot.

Bonus Question: I am a night-owl by nature, so I guess later, but sleep is something I always struggle with. My job requires me to start my shift at 4:45am, which used to be the time I went to sleep in the time between study and my job you know haha. I used to do the grave shift 11pm-6am and that did work for me as sleeping during the day I had no problems with but as it stands I do struggle as I need to get to sleep earlier really, but my instinct is to stay up later than I really should. So the end result is my constant state of sleep deprivation lol.

PS. I finally got my first vaccine shot, no thanks to Morrison lol.

I really liked almost everything about Lupin, but I can’t stand most of the flashback scenes; I find the younger version of Assane Diop to be unlikable, so much that I stopped over a month ago in the middle of a season 2 episode because I couldn’t bring myself to finish watching one of the long flashbacks.

Someday I have to go back and plough through those scenes. While I can’t stand the flashbacks, the rest is gold, and the lead actor is great.

Yeah they really did go quite extreme with the flashbacks for the Part 2, especially with the…

Spoilers

… stealing the violin and then getting caught. Like it should have been steal the violin and that’s it. I get the point was showing him first do the voice-manipulation trick which he uses elsewhere in the series, but I don’t know if every aspect needed an ‘origin’ section, especially as it was kind of a dead-end about Claire’s reaction to him giving her a stolen violin. We have the dramatic shot of her dropping it and she was in the background being taken off stage by a teacher, but we didn’t have any follow-through about her reaction to him, which made it strange considering how much other time we spent in the flashback.

Although that said, I really did like the editing cut-between of the the boys/men going through the catacombs. I thought that was very well paced and edited together.

Although ironically one thing I did feel was overdone was the actual ‘Lupin’ aspect of it, especially with the son, unless they have plans to do something with that later.

I always watch in native languages with subtitles, really dislike dubbed voices. They are never right, particularly if you know the actors’ work and voice.
