The Daily Grind: Should more MMOs include player campsites?

While I was never an active player of Star Wars Galaxies, I was the proud owner of the official game guide (which I read cover-to-cover as part of an assessment of whether or not I wanted to play it). Out of all of the features that I found attractive of the game, it was the mention of player campsites that really drew my attention.

Honestly, I seriously do not understand why we have so many MMORPGs out there that involve adventuring across wilderness yet don’t make any allowance for camping. You would think this went hand-in-hand with tromping through nature, but no, it rarely appears in MMOs.

What do you think? Is there a demand, desire, or need for player campsites in MMOs? Could they be a good crossover of player housing and impromptu social spaces? What games should include them?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
