The Daily Grind: How resistant are you to the allure of MMO microtransactions?

The insane level of predatory monetization in Diablo Immortal certainly sparked a whole lot of discussion —  not to mention backlash — this month. Analyzing and studying the numerous psychological gambits that Blizzard and NetEase use to wheedle their way into players’ wallets give off the (true) impression that our wills are under attack.

But of course, that’s also true in other games as well. Lockboxes tempt us with visions of untapped riches, “convenient” purchases in the store add up, and who wouldn’t want to snap up that adorable, must-have mount that’s only available for a limited time? LIMITED, people!

So in the face of this psychological assault, we put forth this question today: How resistant are you to the allure of MMO microtransactions? Where are you weakest in your financial discipline?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
