MassivelyOP’s 2022 Awards: Best PvP MMO

Welcome back to Massively Overpowered’s formal end-of-the-year awards!

Today’s award is for the Best PvP MMO, which was awarded to Albion Online last year. We halted this older award after 2017 since the state of PvP MMOs was pretty weak, but we brought it it back last year when we knew we could crown a legitimate winner. We’ve opted to include live, fully released MMORPGs launched in any year, as long as their 2022 PvP experience is what’s being judged. Don’t forget to cast your own vote in the just-for-fun reader poll at the very end!

And the MassivelyOP staff pick for the Best PvP MMO of 2022 is…

ALBION ONLINE

Brianna Royce: Albion Online. I kinda hate giving this one to Albion Online again, but it really deserves it. What you guys won’t see is that Albion Online initially got nominated like six times for Best Indie too, but we had to disqualify it because it’s not really an indie MMO anymore, not since the buyout. But there’s obviously enough admiration on our team for it that we decided to give it the PvP MMO crown once again.

Carlo Lacsina: Black Desert.

Chris Neal: EVE Online, Albion Online. I still maintain that I am the fluffiest of sheep, but I also have to admit that, for my brief time in this game, its PvP felt at least the closest to possibly acceptable. Also, Albion does seem to keep wanting to try new things, and that’s something that deserves appreciation.

Eliot Lefebvre: Considering that most of the primarily competition for the throne Albion Online sits on like a big comfy chair cannot seem to get its act together enough to not shut down less than a year from launch, this is perhaps not the biggest accomplishment. But Albion Online does at least seem to be a non-awful game on top of that!

Justin Olivetti: Guild Wars 2.

Albion Online took our award for Best PvP MMO. What’s your pick?

How does MassivelyOP choose the winner?
Our team gathers together to nominate and discuss candidates and hopefully settle on a consensus winner. We don’t have a hard vote, but we do include commentary from writers so that you can see our thought process. The site’s award goes to the staff selection, but we’ll include both it and the community’s top nomination in our debrief in January.
How does MassivelyOP populate this poll?
Poll options include all MMOs nominated plus a few others we thought should be included.
