The Daily Grind: Should all MMOs offer an arachnophobia mode?

The other day my daughter was telling me about a game she was playing that had an “arachnophobia mode.” She isn’t scared of spiders, mind you, but she was curious and activated the mode to discover that all eight-legged crawlers were transformed into goofy critters instead.

It’s not the first time that I’ve heard of such a mode in a video game. Arachnophobia is pretty common, and the fact that games love their giant spider enemies doesn’t help with that fear. And considering that MMOs always come stocked with giant spiders as a default setting, I was wondering if they should also start incorporating arachnophobia modes to take the edge off for certain players. What do you think?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
