New World takes a moment to discuss music design and its impact on the MMO in a video

The latest Forged in Aeternum episode is for the audiophiles out there. The most recent video digest from New World brings together audio lead Austin DeVries and award-winning composer Edouard Brenneisen to talk about – brace yourselves – creating the music for the MMO. I know, madness.

Facetiousness aside, the video offers a fair bit of insight into how the music for Rise of the Angry Earth was shaped around the expansion’s visuals and story. Much is made about considering the well-meaning intentions of the NPC Artemis and the neutrality of nature simply wanting to exist, which informed a lot of the musical themes around the Elysian Wilds and the expansion, while also taking a closer look at specific pieces of music like Artemis’ theme and the gorilla fight music. Unsurprisingly, both men also talk about the “bewildering” (their words) award win.

The video isn’t exactly going to impress those who want to hear about gameplay-specific matters or content features, but considering we appreciate the impression that great music can make in an MMO, we’d be remiss to not give those who worked to make New World’s soundtrack their due.
