The Daily Grind: Have daily login bonuses ever gotten you to stay in an MMORPG?

Back in February, Lord of the Rings Online kicked off another one of its promotions that I assume is meant to get people who already pay for the game to actually log in, rather than to get F2P players to pay; the promo gives free gold hobbit presents to VIP subbers every day instead of once a week.

Even as I was grumbling about how I never get anything good from the gold presents, I set a reminder on my phone and I logged in all but one of those days to get my freebies. And you know, toward the end of that run, I was actually considering sticking around instead of just logging right back out. I couldn’t believe it was happening, especially since I am wise to the trick, but just looking at my house and my cute little toons and doing familiar things like shuffling inventory and oooooh I forgot I made all that food last time and ohhh what a great name past me gave that hobbit and wow I don’t remember that costume and I wonder what’s big on the AH right now… and suddenly my 30-second login became 30 minutes and I was mentally shuffling around my play schedule.

If it didn’t work, they wouldn’t do it, right? Have daily login bonuses ever gotten you to stay in an MMORPG?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
