Todd Howard doesn’t see an Elder Scrolls television series happening any time soon

So now that everyone loves the Fallout television series (except possibly for John Phillips Fallout, who was literally named to be the lead), the obvious question is whether or not Bethesda is going to go for its other long-running property as a TV show. IGN caught up with Todd Howard at the Fallout premiere event, and as Howard put it… probably not. “I’d probably say no,” were his exact words on the topic when asked about a series based on The Elder Scrolls.

As Howard explains, this isn’t unique; Howard had been approached about a Fallout adaptation for years, but he wanted to make sure that the project was approached in the same fashion as a new game in the franchise. That meant starting in a fresh setting and only occurred when he was working with someone he already liked from their prior television work.

“I don’t know. There’s nothing in the works […] Everybody asks, like, about Elder Scrolls, and I keep saying no also. And I would approach those – I’ll probably say no. You never know if someone’s gunna click. But I think this really came out of, ‘we think things are aligning to do a high-quality job.’ It wasn’t forced. It was kind of a natural relationship and ‘hey, this sounds really cool.’ As opposed to, ‘we should have a show,’ right? It never came from that.”

So it’s not completely out of the question, but don’t count on a new series just so that there can be another Bethesda TV series on Amazon.
