The Daily Grind: Has an MMO ever inspired your real pet’s name?

I love naming stuff. Not just my characters, but when allowed, I name my crafted items, housing plot, and of course, my virtual pets. But sometimes, it’s the other way around. I had a pet named Talon, after the Primal Rage character, and another named Shadow, inspired by but completely different from the Sonic the Hedgehog character, as she was a super sweety.

Heck, we named our dog Mace, partially because I was playing Asheron’s Call, where many people didn’t seem to know the difference between a mace and a flail. When we saw the little pup, he was swinging a rope toy with a rubber part on the end, whacking the sides (and other pup) like he was using a flail, which my siblings agreed was a bad name but Mace was not. Only my brother knew the name was partially inspired by our MMO of choice.

Have you ever named a pet after someone/thing in an MMO? Maybe something blatant, like a cat named Firiona because you played EverQuest or a hamster named Chua, not because it means something in another language but because you played one in Wildstar? Or maybe something low-key, like a dog named Dragon because you’ve hunted so many across your MMO career you figured you might as well help keep one alive?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
