Nexon is handing out compensation for The First Descendant’s messy but popular launch

So I know you’ll be shocked to hear this, but the launch of The First Descendant yesterday did not go perfectly smoothly. I know, it’s a lot to take in.

While nobody is quite to “review-bombing” levels of fury yet, the Steam reviews are sitting pretty at “mixed,” owing to piles and piles of complaints about the game’s performance and stability. Nexon itself is maintaining a rather lengthy list of issues it’s still working on, like framerate problems, beta test rewards not sending, mission bugs, and borky interaction with antivirus and anticheat and even Twitch drops.

“We sincerely apologize once again for the inconvenience caused by the issues that occurred during the opening day,” Nexon says. “As a token of our apology, we prepared a compensation. We will continue to strive to provide a more stable service.”

The compensation includes boosts to experience, shards, and gold, as well as red paint. Why red? I mean… the memes write themselves.

Nexon ought to be rather pleased with the uptake for the game, at least; it peaked last night around 230,000 players on Steam alone, and of course it’s also on console and cloud streaming too, so suffice it to say, a lot of people turned out for this one.
