Solarpunk is a survival crafting sandbox, so obviously building is going to be a major part of its core gameplay loop, but that feature has gotten a few significant additions according to the latest update post from developer Cyberwave, with new mechanical updates for this most important of functions.

First off, building pieces have changed from a collision detection system to a snap system, allowing players to more easily clap together walls, roofs, columns, decor, and electronics. Next, buildings now have specific construction rules that allow carpets to be placed beneath existing furniture and wall shelves to automatically rotate towards the wall they’re being hung from. Finally, decorations have distinct collision states that opens up more fine customization such as placing a potted plant on the edge of a furnace.

Other updates to the building system include new rules that govern whether items can be built only on land or water, improved cloud and weather effects, and an improved building placement highlight, along with some general gameplay updates for the floating water drone and a prototype system that sees characters take damage from flying debris.
