RuneScape Necromancers now have a new ghost friend to summon thanks to the latest patch

How and why

The best thing about being a Necromancer is that you can make friends in a rather literal sense, and now thanks to the most recent patch to RuneScape, those Necromancers have a new buddy to call on in the form of the phantom guardian.

As one might be able to guess, the phantom guardian is a ghost that primarily focuses on defending the player by reducing core damage types by up to five percent, though it can be commanded to retaliate against foes once the ability reaches tier six. Unlocking this summon can be done at the Well of Souls once players have unlocked the fifth tier.

The weekly patch has otherwise applied another round of overall updates including corrections for smithing armor spikes, the addition of multiple items to Ironman mode, and a new calendar entry for the Ode of the Devourer quest that’s starting on September 16th; just make sure you’ve unlocked those prerequisites if you haven’t already.
