If envy has been burning in the bosom of Dungeons and Dragons Online players after seeing its sister MMO LOTRO get 64-bit servers, maybe this will provide a cooling balm: DDO is getting ready to test its own powered-up shard at some point later this year.

Standing Stone Games confirmed that a 64-bit shard is coming, with “a lot more information [on the server] in the coming weeks.”

“We are getting ready for our first public test of the new 64-bit server soon using the Lamannia game launcher,” the studio said on the forums. “When the 64-bit server arrives to the live game worlds it will be VIP-only and no transfers to the world will be possible. Think of this project as the DDO version of what we recently did on the LOTRO side for those who are familiar with that.”

Meanwhile, DDO dropped Update 69.2 this week with a revamped Gatekeepers’ Grove with the intention to make it “easier to navigate.”
