We were mighty shocked this morning when Steam issued a news blast announcing that Age of Water was moving from early access to launch, especially since the team hasn’t been building up the hype for that or sending marketing to that end – pretty weird for a Gaijin game. Turns out it was just a weird glitch.
“Dear players, many of you may have received emails stating that the game has been released from early access today,” the Age of Water devs wrote on Twitter and Steam shortly after the missives went out. “This was due to a technical error in the administration of the Steam page. We would like to inform you that the status of the game has not changed!”
Readers will recall that Age of Water is a seafaring survival MMO from publisher Gaijin Entertainment and developer Three Whales Studio; it originally launched into early access back in April. Since last we checked in on it in September, the devs have released another 10 updates of varying size, including improvements for solo players, wind generation, and inventory weight/capacity. Player counts, however, have continued to sink; over the last month, the game has seen a peak of 370 players compared to 1792 back in May.
“We are continuing the development of Age of Water,” the devs vow today.
