For Lord of the Rings Online players on the Mordor and Angmar servers, it’s 2008 all over again. That’s because SSG is unlocking the first expansion, Mines of Moria, on these 64-bit legendary worlds today. The community is so excited that it formed a giant procession to the entrance earlier this week.

The 16-year-old expansion arrives with several surprises and improvements, starting with “vicious hunters and assassins” populating the underground kingdom. Players can take them out for bounty tokens that can then be spent with the Iron Garrison for extra rewards.

Update 42.2 also beefs up the difficulty of several Moria instances, adds new stable-master routes in the expansion, and nerfs the Ringwraith event on the legendary worlds. Additionally, the patch activates this year’s round of Yule Hobbit presents and brings the Treebeard server to level 105, so players can adventure into Far Anorien and the Wastes.
