By basically any metric you’d care to use, FBC: Firebreak, a co-op shooter set in the Control universe, did not work. It did not sell well, and that’s a big part of why its update in March was officially the last one. But the benefit of your game not being a big hit is that it doesn’t cost much to keep it online, and that’s a part of why during its Q1 2026 earnings briefing, Remedy told investors that the game will remain online and playable, noting the server costs are not significant.
“FBC: Firebreak received its last Major Update ‘Open House’ in March, and the game moved to maintenance mode. Friend’s Pass feature was introduced to serve our community and to support the game’s player base. FBC: Firebreak will remain live and playable. Upkeeping the infrastructure will not incur significant costs for Remedy. FBC: Firebreak remains available on both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass and is available for purchase on the PC and console platforms it was released on.”
Despite the low population, this is still good news and a sign that the company is dedicated to keeping the title online, even if it won’t be receiving any new content updates. So if you’re one of the handful of people who really did enjoy the game – or you just want to see how things are with a tiny game that has very few players – the servers aren’t going anywhere. That part is working quite well.
