Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to announce Romans: Age of Caesar, a new grand-strategy MMO from Firefly Studios, creator of MMORTS Stronghold Kingdoms. The game is described as “a co-operative grand strategy MMO” and “a shared world builder” in which players must work together “to rebuild the great cities of Rome.” It’s a fitting return to the setting for Firefly Studios founders Simon Bradbury and Eric Ouellette, both of whom worked on the classic Caesar series of games.

According to the press release, the game will provide “classic city builder gameplay across an online continent” where players can “build and trade with everyone on the same map.” There will be 16 players to a city, and each of the governors will share resourcse as they seek to establish trade routes, protect themselves from barbarian invasions, and rebuild the republic. Romans: Age of Caesar is currently slated to release on PC and mobile platforms sometime this year, and closed alpha signups are open on the game’s official site.
