One of Funcom’s (many) new games is a rhythm FPS called Metal: Hellsinger

It’s no secret that one-time MMORPG company Funcom has a whole bunch of new games on the horizon, both developed in-house (like the DUNE game and Mutant Chronicles shooter) and outside of the company by brands it’s merely publishing. One of them was set to be revealed last week and seemingly slid to this week, as Funcom officially revealed Metal: Hellsinger. It’s not an MMO, and in fact it doesn’t even seem to be multiplayer at all, and it comes to the publisher from developer The Outsiders.

“Metal: Hellsinger is a rhythm FPS, where your ability to shoot on beat will increase your power and intensify the music. Featuring an original soundtrack with vocals from metal icons such as Matt Heafy (Trivium) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Metal: Hellsinger innovates both the rhythm and FPS genre with layered music. Each level will have its own song, and every song will be divided into multiple layers. Your performance will impact how many layers of the song will be played at a time, starting with atmospheric background music, and ending with powerful metal anthems.”

The game is launching next year on PC and console – both current and next-gen consoles. We’re unlikely to cover it again since it lacks multiplayer, but it looks fun!
