The Daily Grind: Are you anxious about the Funcom acquisition?

Engagement.

I read the news today, oh boy. Tencent has bought out all of Funcom’s stuff. This is pretty significant; it’s yet another thing being gobbled up by Tencent (which you may recall has some pretty hefty investments in the online space), and it raises the specter of a dark fate befalling Funcom in a way that hasn’t been raised since… well, the last news about Funcom, which seems to have been trying to pull itself out of self-dug holes for ages.

There was certainly a time wherein I would have been anxious about this myself, but after witnessing the company’s output over the past few years, the relaunch and implosion of Secret World Legends, and just the overall state of affairs… honestly, I can’t find myself getting all that worked up. Something had to change, yes. Then again, I could certainly see fans of the aforementioned SWL or even titles like Anarchy Online or Conan Exiles regarding this with no small amount of trepidation. So are you anxious about the Funcom acquisition, or does it mostly seem like it’s just explaining how things eventually go south?
