The Daily Grind: What were some of the most memorable MMO outages?

This past week, many Lord of the Rings Online players impatiently nibbled on lembas bread and took to Reddit as several of the North American servers remained offline for multiple days. It’s unfortunately not the first time that LOTRO’s seen such an event, with a four-day outage happening back in March 2019. Maybe it’s an annual festival of sorts?

The frustration of a game being down when you want to, you know, just play it tends to rankle our instant gratification centers and create lasting impressions upon us that we will later tell to our therapists.

Many of the Massively OP community have been witness to great MMORPG outages of years past, so I thought it might be fun to dredge up those painful memories and grouse about them. What were some of the most memorable outages you’ve ever experienced?
