Star Citizen shows off the creation of FPS weapons in a developer livestream

Whether in a ship or on foot in FPS combat, players and NPCs in Star Citizen will get shot at with a variety of fascinating weapons. Handheld weaponry was the focus of the latest developer livestream, which brought on members of the game’s weapons content team to talk about how they realize the variety of guns in the sandbox.

The stream focused on a barrel-fed pump-action shotgun and the new sniper rifle that was previewed in the last Star Citizen Live video. The devs first start with a high-poly render that is then manually adjusted to require less polygons in order for the weapon to run in-game. That said, each weapon still has a number of fine details that are considered in order to ensure each weapon can stand up to any intense scrutiny. The stream also offered another look at the tech being used to show off wear on weapons.

It’s not a particularly incredible livestream in terms of being told anything new necessarily, but for those who like to join in on these close looks at how CIG does things, it’s likely interesting. For those folks, we’ve got the embed below.
