CIG announces support for Tobii Eye Tracking technology in Star Citizen update 3.12

If you notice a weird, hollow blob squidging its way across your screen while watching some post-game footage of your time in Star Citizen update 3.12, don’t be alarmed; it’s just the Tobii Eye Tracker working its magic. Unless, of course, you don’t have Tobii Eye Tracking hardware and software in use and you have that same blob in your vision, in which case you might want to visit a doctor.

CIG has announced an “exclusive partnership” with Tobii, making the company’s signature eye tracking features available once update 3.12 arrives to the game, which is subtitled Assault on Stanton. Which sounds like something that would be interesting to elaborate on, but go off about eye tracking tech instead, I guess.

In fairness, the inclusion of eye tracking tech effectively means that a player avatar’s head will move in response to their own eye and head movements in real life, which could be useful while in FPS combat or looking for targets in a ship’s cockpit, along with all of the other marquee features of the Eye Tracker’s software.

“Take flying and dogfighting in Star Citizen to the next level with the advanced precision and speed of Tobii eye tracking hardware, while enjoying a more intuitive flight experience as you soar through space.”

For those who are eager to join in on the Tobii Eye Tracker support, Star Citizen players can enjoy an exclusive 10% discount on the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 peripheral between now and January 8th. More details can be found on the game’s official site
