The Daily Grind: Which ‘holiday’ deserves more MMORPG events?

My friends, today is March 14th, aka 3/14, aka π day, aka pi day, aka pie day, and as such, it provides the perfect opportunity to complain about holidays in MMORPGs.

A mere handful of MMOs will acknowledge on social media this holiest of holy days for devotees of math and/or pies, and almost none of them will insert a reference to it into the game. And honestly… why not? We get Santa Claus, Easter bunnies, Halloween, St Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, various Thanksgivings and Independence Days, and now even Lunar New Year. I’m kinda sick of seeing them flood MMOs. I want something different! Stuff like pi day is sort of perfect and really doesn’t make any less sense than fantasy MMOs festooned with pumpkins and Christmas trees on spaceships.

Jokes aside, there are a few non-standard festivals and “holidays” – like Oktoberfest and Talk Like A Pirate Day – that are still only slowly catching on in specific MMOs, and I’m a fan. Several MMOs celebrate Star Wars Day too, and not even just the Star Wars ones. Which holiday do you think deserves more MMORPG events?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
