Last night – or early this morning, depending on where on the planet you’re standing – Blizzard and NetEase dropped Diablo Immortal’s next big update, along with its 28th season and battle pass. That 28 is not a typo. It does seem as if it was just yesterday that it was launching and people were calling it Diablo Immoral and seeing how many cars’ worth of money could be spent on top gear. Apparently we stayed awhile and listened too long.
“Though the vestiges of Pelghain’s imperial glory will never return, it is impossible to forget,” Blizzard’s patch notes read. “The Season 28 Battle Pass storms asunder starting July 4, 3 a.m. server time and ends August 1, 3 a.m. server time – begin slaying demons and climbing your way through the ranks today.” The patch also includes a new panel for tracking your owned cosmetics; the return of the Fractured Plane, Conqueror, Wild Brawl, and Hungering Moon events; adjustments to rune drop rates, Abyssal Verge, Castle Erebban; Shadow War tweaks; and a fix for battleground ranks that stops you from losing your tier after you hit Major.
Worth noting is that the studios are taking the opportunity of the patch and maintenance to merge a ton of servers around the world as well. The merge list is not at all clear, as there are no labels explaining what’s merging into and with what and what the destination server names will be; even players responding to the thread are confused. In any case, it’s a very long list of servers that certainly suggests the game’s population has only continued to drop.
