The Daily Grind: What was the worst MMORPG trend of 2024?

Layoffs.

OK, that one’s a gimmie – and it hurts a lot more than MMORPGs. So let me pitch another one:

A bunch of MMOs either tried to downgrade themselves out of being MMOs, not because they aren’t MMOs but because they didn’t want to do the work of being MMOs. Temtem? New World? ArcheAge Chronicles? Mhm.

And then we saw several MMORPGs pivot to spinoff games as if this ever goes well! (It never goes well!) Zenith? Temtem, again? Come on!

What do you think was the worst MMORPG trend of 2024? What bad shit just keeps cropping up over and over and you wish it would stop?
