DCUO releases new munitions power set

DC Universe Online released its 13th power set today. Munitions “allows players to master over-the-top explosives, powerful ballistics, and large weapons,” according to a Daybreak press release. The set features two power trees, one each for DCUO’s damage and controller roles.

The set is free for members. Alternatively, you can purchase it in the cash shop. Don’t forget about the release trailer after the break!

mysecretid Craw Oh, no doubt.  You can, but it’s not an optimal build by any means.  I am torn on this game, I would really really like to like it… but the power/weapon approach doesn’t quite work for all hero types and the limits in costumes (3 colours? no customizable patterns/textures?) makes this offering in the genre fall a few miles short of the mark.

Does anyone know if they ever rebuilt the PC GUI?  I know it was talked about a while back, but the last time I logged in it was still the same, lusciously bad, like really brain damaging terrible, UI as always.

I did actually build a “pseudo-Superman” character as my main, using the various workarounds you cite. He was okay, but he never felt to me like he was “on par” with other characters in DCUO who were built from two official power sets.
It was okay for most of the game, but I really noticed the power difference during the game’s so-called endgame, where you primarily team with other players to do what amounts to group raids (over and over and over and over and f#cking over again).

I did feel underpowered in those raid-type scenarios, and when you’re trying to homage Superman, you shouldn’t be the guy going unconscious more than everyone else on the team. :-)

So, yeah, you’re right — you can certainly “fake it” to a degree, but I’m still wondering why they don’t have a “Might” power set in the game by now. Superman and Wonder Woman are wondering too. :-)

Cheers,

No need to apologize. The fact that the game still starts “Superman protege” heroes with Ice Powers as one of their two sets just makes me shake my head.
One could have chalked it up to a “game launch issue”, but how many years are we into this game’s lifespan now, and they still haven’t given us oprtions for iconic Superman and Wonder Woman strength and damage resistance powers — in a game which features the icons themselves?!

No need to apologize at all,

Atomic? ?? I just got a bit giddy. Now if only they would release my kinetics…

TehPsi I think back in the day their excuse had been that people would find a Might set to be boring/limiting/not visually impressive enough, when it boiled down to just a few attacks you could pull from the Iconic and Movement list. Still just baffles the hell out of me when you choose the “Superman inspired” option and you’re given a guy who uses ice…

Faction 3 TehPsi They’re finally doing Atomic? I remember that was one of the sets they removed in beta after they went from announcing something like 10 powers to only 6?

Golden_Girl TehPsi You definitely can build him, you pick brawler, flight powers, and iconic powers like heat vision, frost breath and so forth.  Plus, you are not supposed to copy Superman, he is unique and the last Kryptonian.  Unless you count Power Girl.  Or Supergirl, Or Krypto, Or Zod, Ursa, Jax-ur, Doomsday… or every single other one trapped in the phantom zone… and clones and not to mention other dimension versions of them…

Ugh, look what you made me do, defend this terribly flawed game and poor substitute for the one we lost.

TehPsi Thats’ always been baffling – of all the characters that you’d expect that a DC game could fail to support with its power design, Superman wouldn’t be first on the list :-p

The next Tank powerset to be released will be a Physical power, similar to Bane. It’s called “Serums”.

Which I’m looking forward to, tremendously.

TehPsi Yeah, their limited customization in general (powers, weapons, movement, outfits) has been something the game has been criticized for since launch. I mean, they’ve been slowly expanding them, but it’s definitely still a sticking point.

Not to sound negative but, what the hell are the waiting for in adding a Might powerset? Who the hell wants to play an Ice based Superman? Wat? I don’t even.

*cough* Sorry.

Yayyyyy DCUO and your new content! /clap
