Today is a big day for the Sea of Thieves as the piratical gankbox has launched its Season 12 update, which is bringing with it a bevy of new weapons and items along with an entire new playerbase to use them with. Or against, as the situation warrants.

The long-awaited PlayStation 5 launch is the marquee feature for Season 12, which will be available with crossplay and cross-progression for the platform. The PS5 launch is being celebrated with a special commemorative set of sails that all players can get by simply logging in at any time during Season 12.

In addition, the update is bringing several new items including a double-barrelled pistol, knives that can be thrown or used for sneaky backstabs, scattershot cannon ammo, a Bone Caller throwable that summons temporary skeletons to aid in fights, and the Horn of Fair Winds, which lets players fire off blasts of wind for a wide assortment of creative purposes.

Finally, there’s some new traversal in the form of ziplines and the ability to tightrope walk across harpoon gun ropes, while general updates include another new season pass, new emissary ledger rewards, and the return of open crew matchmaking. The full patch notes have all of the details while a sizzle reel video below has all of the… well, sizzle.
