Sea of Thieves confirms crossplay and cross-progression for PS5 version

With Sea of Thieves inching closer to its April 30th launch on PlayStation 5, the team at Rare has decided to pull together an FAQ full of enlightening answers, particularly in the case of how the new platform will play nice with others. And it will indeed play nice.

The FAQ opens by confirming that cross-progression for existing players will be available, so those who are looking to migrate to the PS5 or bounce between platforms will be able to bring all of their character progress and unlocks along for the rid. The post also confirms that cross-platform play will be available, and players can opt into and out of it as desired. As for whether this means six ship gameplay sessions will be making a comeback, Rare will only say that it is looking into the possibility.

Do note that multiplayer will require a PlayStation Plus subscription to work, though solo play in Safer Seas mode will not have that requirement (but an online connection is required in both cases). Other important points for PS5 players include details on how friend invites will work, confirmation that there are no plans to support the PSVR2 headset, and confirmation that progress from a pre-order “closed beta” on April 12 through the 15th will carry over into the full launch.
