Mortal Online has ‘a few thousand’ active players

Ever wondered how many people are playing Mortal Online? Star Vault CEO Henrik Nystrom was unexpectedly candid about the question on the forums, saying that there are a few thousand subscribers powering the game’s PvP scene.

“There are currently a few thousand players that [are] currently active players,” Nystrom posted. “Not counting [free-to-play gamers] as they [vary] a lot every week.” He also said that a majority of the players are located in the US and that there has been a “small but steady increase” of subscribers as of late.

Mortal Online is preparing an expansion into the Sarducaa region some time this year.

Dr_Sweers Wodenir I had no idea there was a free to play option. I think I might finally try it. You’ve convinced me haha

Wodenir I’ve played off and on since beta.  While MO has improved over the years, it is still an unpolished game with the dreaded “loads of potential”.  The F2P model is actually fairly generous and gives you an opportunity to check out the game for the low price of HD space/time to install.  Keep in mind, you can be killed anywhere.  You aren’t completely safe anywhere within the game world.

The community is hit or miss but that can be said for any MMO.

There is room for PvP as well as the “carebear” or more merchant minded player.  I had a great time taming and breeding/selling horses/donkeys and other mounts.

MO is still rough, as I said but it does have a F2P option that will allow you to check the game out.  You might think about disabling the full nude option when you log in.  After the first few toons you come across hanging brain…it get’s kind of old after a bit;)

Finally, there is non-instanced player housing…which is nice.  The open world PvP makes setting up a house exciting…or heartbreaking:)

Frankly, I bought into MO early, and it still feels like the biggest burn ever.

Haven’t logged in for ages though, maybe it’s turned into an amazing game, eh?

But hey F2P, go try it.

That’s good for an indie MMO, I am glad to see it trucking along.

Jesus Christ TNA pay-per-views have more customers than this game.

Nitpick: Your hyperlinked text “on the forums” does not lead to the original forum post. You probably heard about this through Sandboxer which is appropriately sourced at the bottom, but that was not what I expected to be sent to when I wanted to look “on the forums”. :)
