Windward sets sail on May 12

If the sea is calling to you yet you lack the bouyancy to be a truly successful marine conquerer, then it would probably be prudent to live out your dreams in the safety of your own home. Thankfully, we have Windward for that, a sandbox sailing game that works like a cross between Freelancer and Sid Meier’s Pirates!

Windward players can pick from one of four factions and set sail to battle pirates, explore the procedurally generated map, complete quests, and make a fortune from trading. There are options to play both solo and with others, and the team even added an option to play a game free from combat entirely.

The title has been in early access on Steam for quite some time but will be releasing on May 12th. It carries a price tag of $14.99.

zenaphex Was that game you played called Captains of Darktide, around summer 2010? If so, you and I are in the same boat.

I never ever buy into early access. It’s usually super unpolished, clunky and most of the time too indy for my taste.
This… this i had to buy. $16 CAD is nothing, and yet the fun it provides is outstanding :)

Blackomen NemuiByakko Dystopiq Well, if you don’t like chibi character – just don’t make it that way. There are all options from totally usual good-looking young man / girl up to really barrel-fat big man )) But we speak here about “EVE with sails”, right? As in EVE there your ship will mean much more than your character ) And ships there are many…

NemuiByakko Dystopiq And all of that is fine, but not only does it have dated graphics, it has super asian-a-fied characters, but hey, as long as you don’t mind your pirate captain being a 12 year old, gender confused kid that went super saian.

Dystopiq What??? UWO is *exactly* that! Ship fitting, “Company” vs “Corporation”, dangerous trade runs, company’ settlements in New World with production, most top-tier items crafted by players, overland gungeons (!), a lot of quests (more thna in EVE, it is better for PvE players in general), epic sea battles between countries, where players took part and so change the course of history etc etc. In this game people mostly discuss in chat how to make this or that in game, best fittings for ships, tactics for quest etc – as in good EVE channels ) But in general comunity is so much nicer!
One and only minus – dated graphics.

Looks like nice small game ) If you want epic (EVE-scale) pirate, merchants and adventure game – go to Uncharted Waters Online. It is really deep and complex.
