Camelot Unchained talks tool tweaks, art updates, and more

CityState published its usual Friday update last night, and while it’s headed up by the aforementioned Shapeshifter class reveal, there are some other interesting Camelot Unchained nuggets in there as well.

Mark Jacobs talks about everything from pre- and post-launch backer rewards to user story progress to an upcoming swag store that will feature things like t-shirts, posters, etc. There are some art updates too, as well as bits about engineering tool tweaks and this weekend’s round of testing.

Thank you for your response. Regarding WAR and EA, true, EA did force WAR out too early. However, the design and balancing issues persisted well after release and the population see-sawed between the factions for years.  That kind of problem can’t just be blamed on an early release and must by symptomatic of fundamental design flaws. As for DAoC, I concede your point and accept that DAoC was successful for it’s time. However, if it was successful then how can it suddenly have a massive drop in population? Not all of that can be be blamed on WoW being released. The lion’s share of that loss must have been caused by design failures like prevalence of buff-bots, class issues etc.
People found an option that at surface at least, didn’t suffer from the same issues.

lordmazafeff WAR was force launched by EA.  If you blame Jacob’s for that, well you need to do more homework behind all that went on behind the scenes.  DAoC is still running today, how many years after launch?  The game is heralded by many as their favorite MMO of all time.  Whatever issues DAoC had (as any MMO has had) obviously didn’t taint it’s legacy.  In regards to not backing a game until out of NDA, won’t argue about that.  There is a good track record of games where this would have been good advice.  I will say if anyone considering backing loved DAoC , no reason to be afraid of supporting Citystate’s efforts here.  No huge reason not to wait though, except for veteran/backer rewards.  If you watch the progression of developer videos, it should paint a good picture of how development is coming along. (my avatar is running around in some of those videos!).

I like what I see but let’s not forget the history of the MMO’s Mr. Jacobs has headed. WAR was plagued by glaring class and population balance issues that culminated in a constant cycle of faction switching and population loss. DAoC was plagued by terrible engine problems and horrid class balance issues that affected realm balance, not to mention that ToA was released at the perfect time to help the game fail (yes, WoW came out at that time too, but any any expac where you needed to level your pants by killing mobs at night was a mistake). How do we know that those mistakes won’t be repeated in this 3rd attempt to make an MMO. I advise caution, do not invest in this game until it moves out of the Alpha phase and goes into no NDA beta so we can see the reality of what he is creating.

Very good looking art work.  BUT it is a fantasy, we all know games never look that good.  :)
What we want are more realistic scenes like a small group of bloodied seasoned adventures surveying the field of battle strewn with fallen friend and foe.  Smoking wrecks of siege equipment and defensive structures in the background smouldering ans heavily damaged.

That is what I think is a more realistic scene!

Mark Jacobs wolfyseyes I am looking forward to Crafting!

I always say that PvP serves the same function as back-seat DVD players – a way to distract the children. :-) :-) :-)

Glad to see cosmetic type backer/vet rewards again, haven’t really seen them since my UO/SWG days, and this method is much better than buying them in a cash shop imo. :)

Armsbend Will do. This piece was a surprise to me. Michelle and Sandra had been working on it on their own. They are so awesome.
