The expansion’s card reveals already raised a few eyebrows with the addition of its new card Ragnaros, Lightlord, depicting the fire elemental boss of Molten Core and Firelands fame as a benevolent entity. Lead designer Ben Brode took to Twitter to offer lore fans a slight clarification:
Whispers of the Old Gods (if not all of Hearthstone) is definitely a "What If?" take on Warcraft lore.

In other words, repeat to yourself that it’s just a cool card idea, and you may want to just relax.
I don’t see why people are complaining about the lore in HS of all places.
Hell, in WoW there are rumors that Tirion is becoming a Death Knight, and people complain that Rag picks up a shield and heals in a silly card game?
rgkeydet KalaMona Specifically the cards legal in standard are ones from the current and previous year as well as Basic and Classic cards. (So the starter cards + unlocked class cards and the original boosters.)  Which means that as soon as standard releases, Naxxramas and Guppies vs Gluttons will be phased out and only be legal in Wild format and Arena.
KalaMona They are separating the game into two modes: Wild, which will play like it does now, with every card available from every expansion and adventure. Standard will be the 2nd and it will only have the Base set of cards plus the most recent added cards available. In this case, every card released from 2015 onward.Â
Both modes will have ranked and casual play available, however, future official tournaments will only use Standard mode to play.
” purchasing the Curse of Naxxramas adventure pack, which http://blizzardwatch.com/2016/04/04/hearthstones-whispers-old-gods-likely-release-date-april-26/ that players will not be able to use the cards contained therein in Standard-format matches after April 26th”
Uh? Is this going to be a regular thing, for example Gnomes&Goblins or The Grand Tournament cards will “phase out” too eventually?
Love the overall tone and design direction they are going with for this expansion, can’t wait to get my hands on it
Let’s not pretend Blizzard has given a submarining phoque about the Warcraft lore in World of Warcraft in the last 6 or 7 years either… A silly card game spinoff is not going to ruin what’s already been ruined.Â
Especially when it’s highly likely that Paladnaros will come into play and say “STOP! HAMMER TIME, MORTAL!”
