Becoming Preta offers VR and cross-platform play

One of the reasons why we have been keeping an eye on the virtual reality trend this past year is for its possible implications in the MMORPG genre. Could we someday be donning a headset to go out adventuring in our favorite worlds?

An upcoming title, Becoming Preta, indicates that this future might be in the cards. What looks like a generic hack-and-slash action MMO is revealed to be a lot more interesting when you discover that its team is developing it as a cross-platform title that includes PC, console, mobile — and VR.

While we don’t know what virtual reality devices Becoming Preta will use, co-op play has been confirmed, along with a summer release. This game’s been in development for a while as just Preta, although work on it halted for a while before Nexon formed a new studio, Illion, to handle its final stretch.

“ILLION inc. is a startup established by a group of devs from Nexon and whatnot,” reads the official site. “We are kind of guys who don’t have life except playing video games but were stunned by the fact that how much F2P RPGs sucked nowadays. So we decided to set things straight and began creating our first title Becoming Preta, probably the first F2P VR MORPG that will kick ass!”

You can get a hint of Becoming Preta’s VR mode below.

So it’s a lame, generic hack-and-slash action MMO PC, console, mobile, and VR.

PizzaDoh  They might not even be caring about the “more players.”  With a cool new tech, the devs may be happy with the game as a proof-of-concept so someone will buy them.

I mean sure you may as well jump on the VR train while it’s early and any game will get extra attention with it regardless of its quality…but I see zero reason for this to need VR – This is just a gimmick, like all the first DS games that made you have to doodle shit for no real reason other than “holy shit a touch screen” or the Wii games that made you waggle your controller because “holy shit motion controls”
