Funcom is launching a ‘saga server’ specialty shard for Age of Conan called Saga of Zath

So much for maintenance mode: It appears that Funcom has plans yet for Age of Conan, if the studio’s email to players and post on the official forums this afternoon are any judge. Looks like you’re getting a fresh start temporary challenge/progression server called a “saga server” next year.

“In early 2018, we will be introducing a saga server to Age of Conan. A saga server is a unique server that is live for a limited period of time and comes with unique rewards for completing objectives. All players will start with a fresh, new character that will be transferred to Crom after the saga server’s live period ends, along with any earned rewards. Players will be able to claim rewards on a single character of their choosing. We’ll be releasing more details as the launch date draws closer. Until then, get ready for the Saga of Zath – launching in early 2018!”

There’s nothing on the Anarchy Online forums yet to match, though earlier this week the studio put out feelers for the idea on Facebook.

I suppose their version of maintenance mode is less nothing and more “We’ll do whatever whenever we find a free moment”.

Which really is how it should be.

I do like Age of Conan it is a good game that could have been a great game and would have been amazing if it was finished like the first 20 levels, I lost interest with the end level grind and the lack of development has prevented me going back, I still listen to the amazing soundtrack though and would go back if they started showing it some love.

Given that Funcom is now all in with licensing of Robert E. Howard’s properties it makes sense. I’m glad some of that Exiles’ revenue is being pushed to AoC to make it happen. As a latecomer to AoC it will hopefully inject some renewed excitement.

I played AoC when it first launched; so much possibilities but it was probably a year too early out.

I have tried to get back in once or twice but haven’t continued for long; it’s far, far too late to AoC I think but with that license they hopefully (I am dreaming here, forgive me) could draw in serious investment, do AoC 2 and let AoC to go on until that happens… (Or do an Age of Kull: Atlantis Online as someone proposed…)

After LotRO AoC (with the late WAR) are games that based on their franchises should be both huge (which they of course are not) and able to draw in serious investment for sequels or prequels.

I have to wonder if it has been wrong people leading these projects and companies when hey have failed to do both.

Come on Anarchy Online port to Unreal!! Such a good game, held back by such an old engine graphically.

Chucking it in a new engine (aside from being almost technically impossible at this point with their resources) won’t mean it’ll look better automatically.

It would be great if all the player characters were named “Zath.” It’s been a long time since I had anything to look forward to in AoC, but I am now.
