Paragon is slowing down because the game just isn’t growing

It’s a good thing that Paragon fans have gotten a detailed and straightforward update on the state of the game and its development future straight from the developers. What may be seen as slightly less good is the context of that update. Put simply, patches and development in general are slowing down because the game just doesn’t seem capable of growing. No matter how many changes are made to the game, its playerbase tends to go back to the same exact size.

This is exacerbated somewhat by the success of Fortnite, which has required additional development staff and has generally served as a major success for the company. That isn’t to say anyone is giving up on Paragon having a future; the development team is working on plans for new approaches to bring players into the game and keep them in the game. For the moment, though, the release cadence is going to slow down a fair bit simply because the game isn’t getting any bigger. Here’s hoping that the team finds the growth trick the game is looking for.

An FPS/MOBA that is more MOBA than FPS to the point there really is no reason for it to be FPS with a pretty generic character design that are a bit muddled with certain characters (also there seems to be only one female model, but pretty much every video game does that)… yeah, I wonder why it’s not doing well.

Oh, and they can’t say they didn’t know about it. I’ve been to their forums. It being too slow and lacking mechanical skill was one of the biggest complaints. When they supposedly speed things up I went back and still felt like it was too slow and still no mechanical skill.

Honestly, they might as well have called it SMITE.

cut the losses on this one.

Graphics are great but for some reason they went with slow pace moba. Have you see the melee swings in this game? SLOW! They should have went with FAST pace moba and drop the silly last hit mechanic. Also the characters are lifeless…every moba on the market has voice overs for characters Paragon has next to none. Also the card system while more simple than it was at launch is a massive barrier to entry.

And now with what seems to be a smaller budget and less focus? There is no reason to play Paragon in 2018 sad to say.

Epic should just stick to ripping off successful games. Paragon is a mess of bad design choices, from the convoluted card/gem system (which directly impacts in-game power progression options…?????????????) and the senseless meta-progression system to only ever having a single map that keeps getting gutted over time with a game pace that doesn’t feel good in the slightest.

This is straight up a game that doesn’t deserve to make it big based on the systems and designs currently present. It feels cash grabby in a way that SMITE/DotA 2/LoL/HotS manage to avoid because the progression revolves around a system designed to make you want to spend money on it asap.

The game also still just doesn’t feel that great IMO. SMITE has its issues, sure, but it at least feels good and gives plenty of situations where skillful aim/juking can decide a fight. In Paragon it’s like… nothing feels weighty or like it does much, but then power spikes like crazy and if you fall behind you’re SOL. Just everything about it feels half-baked or poorly thought out, like it’s a wonder the game wasn’t shut down yet.

This is pretty much a MOBA no one wanted and no one was really interested in to begin with. It doesn’t have anything going for it other than graphics. That’s it. The gameplay is not compelling or unique enough, and quite frankly it’s bad in a lot of areas. Worst of all, AN RNG CARD COLLECTION SYSTEM DETERMINES THE ITEMS AND POWER SPIKES YOU GET IN-GAME, and the deck building system is horrendously complicated for no reason. It’s dumb with Paladins, and it’s even worse with Paragon. Take that crap out of competitive games if you don’t want to be regarded as a joke.

Well when you try and launch a MOBA in a market that is already over-saturated what do you expect really?

Not to mention force a TCG-like system into the itemization, and then add bonkers progression mechanics. Like they’re already forcing it into a niche position with the first part, the second part just kills majority interest.

One map, last kill mechanic, game pacing that is way off (they’re so intent on shortening the game time that you rarely get to flesh out your hero)….. so many reasons why people aren’t playing this game long term.
I’m not sure what they think the mystery is here.

It’s not growing because they are impatient and not listening to the community they want instant overnight return succsess like with fortnite battle royale n that’s not how mobas work

I mean they haven’t been listening for the two years or whatever that it’s been out. They’ve forced a really bad card system into a game where such things should never exist.

Epic’s been nothing but a corporate sellout since Daddy Tencent bought a huge chunk of their shares (45% I think?).

PARAGON BATTLE ROYALE CONFIRMED

Maybe they could take all that clearly impressive effort spent on combat mechanics, effects, art, lore, etc… and make an actual fucking game out of it that isn’t a yet another MOBA no-one asked for in an already-crowded, cut-throat, audience-cannibalizing space that has an order of magnitude more failures than successes.

I guess that’s an impossible dream. That would involve making actual content instead of just tossing players into a space and having them kill each other as gameplay.

Its a moba and worse a moba with the blandest art style i have ever seen. What hook do they have?

I believe the hook was Unreal engine by the people who made the engine.

Yeah the hook was literally “look at these graphics! We’re the guys who did Gears of War!”

Maybe they should add a new game mode. Something like that “Battlegrounds” mode in Paladins.
