CCP has obliquely confirmed it’s working on a brand-new ‘action MMO’

Remember back in December, when the gaming world noticed that CCP’s hiring page sought a lead designer to run “a new and highly ambitious MMORPG” under its banner? It seemed unlikely that it was anything the company was already working on, like the EVE Online mobile MMO dubbed Project Aurora or the other mobile MMO, Project Galaxy, or even Project Nova.

Here’s a bit more to chew on: CCP announced this week that it’ll be using Unreal Engine exclusively for its upcoming games, and in the press release, as PCGN noticed, it seemingly confirms that the game still exists and that it’s now being called an “action MMO.”

“‘Working with Epic Games using their engine source code, which is open to all Unreal developers, is great for both AAA and indie studios alike, thanks to the huge amount of support options available,’ said James Dobrowski, Executive Producer on the unannounced action-MMO being created at CCP London.”

It’s not entirely clear whether the “ambitious MMORPG” and “action-MMO” are the same game or why there’s been a subtle change in its description.

It’s got to better than EVE.

EVE is just boring.

Probably end just being another failed project in their pile.

That’s the consensus, yes.

I’ll believe it when I see it as I highly suspect EVE’s rabid fanbase will end up causing the death of this game like they did the World Of Darkness game.

Hello again.

Do tell. How did they cause death of WoD?

Constantly questioning CCP why they were spending money developing another game instead of expanding EVE? Like flat out protesting the fact that CCP might actually invest resources in something other than EVE was basically happening with them constantly calling them out because of it. CCP caves a little to much to EVE”s fanbase at times and as such have had trouble expanding beyond EVE or the EVE IP.

Or maybe they just took too long into actually developing WoD? The game was like 5 years inside and there was nothing. Absolutely nothing. So they canned it.

I get that EVE community largely sucks, but i won’t blame them for what is basically CCP’s incompetence.

Maybe. But can you answer me this: were you a tester? Or have you seen alpha documents and screenshots?

It was question, not a doubt. I never connected with EVE community for real and never played game that long. So I guess I missed this. Also… If this is the reason… I don’t know what to say. In my opinion still a very bad decision.

I’ll believe it when it actually comes out. CCP so far has shown that they are incapable of actually releasing anything significant after Eve.

Hopefully they will leave CCPs traditional DBaggery out of the coding.

Did they buy out another studio and not make them work on EVE? I’m impressed

Man…it’s been a long time since someone with their own money (not crowd funding) has made an MMORPG that I was interested in.

I’d love a viable sci-fi action combat MMO. But this is CCP so it’ll be a gankbox which is a hard “no” for me.

Does it really matter if their next canceled game is an MMORPG or an Action MMO?

Reader
Rolan Storm

So. This.
