Massively OP’s 2018 Blooper Awards: Best article joke (almost) nobody got

Massively OP’s not-so-serious end-of-the-year awards continue today with our blooper award for best article joke (almost) nobody got. And the winner is…

Mad World

Every once in a while, Eliot will ask me if he can write an entire post as nothing but song lyrics. And I can’t remember the last time I turned him down. So when teeny-tiny indie grimdark MMO Mad World teased some gameplay trailers, well, an obvious opportunity presented itself.

All around me are computer platforms,
Some are Windows, some are Android,
I would like to play the same game on them,
This game does it, thanks to HTML5
Players do not need a client download –
Runs in browsers, runs in browsers,
But you want to know about the gameplay,
There’s video, there’s a video
And I find it kind of funny,
I find it kind of sad,
This indie from Korea is the best crossplay we’ve had.
See players fight while running
And scope the interface,
From iOS to desktop you can try this game out –
Mad World.
Mad World.

I also can never hear that song without thinking about the movie “Donnie Darko” which was a great fit.

I might not’ve commented, but I still appreciated the joke :)

I’m old enough to remember hearing the song when it first came out in ’83, but these days it always reminds me of the movie Donnie Darko.

Yup. I liked the song before Donnie Darko, but after seeing that movie it just depresses the hell out of me. Heh.

It was a great movie, but not one I would watch during the holidays with friends and family.

Btw, ironic that the first time I remember hearing this song was… in MMO. Some Neocron fan made a video showing streets of Neocron city, once busting with life and now completely deserted. Sad song and sad video:

Fix Neocron problems, market it a bit and relaunch, it’ll gather more people.

It won’t ever pass more than 1000 people, but it’ll be waaaay better than 14.

Graphics too outdated, controls too clunky. There isnt much sense in relaunch until those are dealt with and to get Neocron’s visuals to modern standards is too much effort for a non-profit small team.

In fact they are trying to improve graphics offering anyone to create new assets and motivating people with contests: https://www.neocron-game.com/announcements

I would of likely gotten it if it where a game I was following. So there was no “whooosh” over the pigtails on this one here, rather the “whooosh” went beside me while I was busy doing something else. o.O

Ridiculous music video, though it’s a nice song. That’s way before my time but I like his voice.

You know when your getting severely aged, when that song I considered highly innovated and ahead of itself at one point in my life, is now stated as “way before my time”. :(

Time comes for everyone, buddy

Have you heard the crap kids these days listen to? Why back in my day we had…..well, most of it was also crap. But it was the golden age of synth-pop!

…it was one of the more pivotal eras of electronic music IMO. A time, despite some of its cheeze sandwiches, that I have profound respect for.

That one flew o’er my head. Probably because when discussing video games Madworld and music my mind will only, and always, go to this:
